A major word of thanks to whoever recovered these great recordings from a landfill!! If you know about Chappo & Streetwalkers & Family - you must invest immediately. This live recording is a revelation.
Don't be put off by the minor notes about recording quality - if you have the Streetwalkers live double - this is better. Chappo sounds unreal, and the recording quality is superb.
I was lucky enough to go to the launch gig of the Streetwalkers back in 75 at the Marquee. It remains my favourite gig of all time - the power and musicianship was sensational. Being right at the stageside and seeing Chappo & co in full flow was spellbinding. I have remained a massive fan ever since. I still believe that Chappo is THE BEST R&B/Blues singer this country has produced. This recording is testament to that.
The Streetwalkers should have been huge. They were killed off by the punk nonsense of 77, when they were more powerful and had more energy than all the punk bands put together. They were also at least a decade or so ahead of their time. The evidence is here on this recording - namely the astonishing funk/rock of Crazy Charade. A slightly slower and funkier version of the studio recording - this has to be heard. And remember - the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the "new" purveyors of funk/rock were still a decade away.
So if you have kids who want to know what all the fuss was about in the 60's & 70's - play them this album at full volume. I defy anyone to come up with a band with more power in the last twenty years........
