Charlie Fox returns - this story provides a bit more background into her relationship with Sean. Again though, action packed, great storyline and charactors. If you like action, adventure, kick-ass heroine...you'll love Charlie Fox. Well recommended but unfortunately just makes me wish I'd taken to riding motorbikes years ago...!

Number 2 in the Charlie Fox series and as good as the first but with the main character a bit more familiar. I didn't really find the plot too great, TBH, but then the plot is often secondary to the action in these sorts of books and Ms Sharp does an excellent job of weaving the strands together in an exciting and satisfactory manner.

It makes a pleasant change to have a female ''tough-guy'' but the author has cleverly avoided making her heroine butch, a mankiller or any other stereotypical female character - Charlie comes across as one who might, in other circumstances, have been a check-out girl, librarian or something equally normal. Yet she has the Army background, the training and, when necessary, the pluck to get herself into and out of difficult situations.

Really enjoyable stuff.

I love the Charlie Fox series and while this is the second book to feature Charlie, it's the first real book of the series featuring the troubled relationship between Charlie herself and her ex-lover Sean Meyer. Ex-Special Forces trainee, Charlie is a brilliant mix of toughness and vulnerability, but not at all in a typical or expected way. Here she is house-sitting for a friend in Lancaster when she gets drawn into urban violence on a run-down estate - only there's far more going on here than meets the eye.

I have to say that I prefer the later books where Charlie is a bodyguard. But even here, Sharp shows herself an astute story-teller, especially good at characterisation, and twisted, brutal plots. These aren't books that are gory in a serial-killer way, but they certainly don't shy away from violence, bloodshed and death.

Despite that, the heart of these books are Charlie herself and her tense and tormented relationship with the enigmatic and utterly compelling Sean Meyer. In this book we see something of Sean's home and family life, something which Sharp abandons in the series, making it all the more riveting and revealing here.

There are points at which we can feel Sharp learning her craft - but the upside is, the later books just keep getting better.

Another brilliant book. I wasn't sure to start with where the story was going but I soon got into it and couldn't put it down. Reading it straight after book 1 was good as the familiarity is there with the characters.

I wont go into the plot as you can read the synopsis but this book is definately worth reading but be warned, don't plan on doing anything else as you won't be able to put it down!! The same can be said for book 3 which I am halfway through :)

Charlie Fox is growing on me. The story line is believable, with twists and turns. Who does she trust, and who doesn't she? Sean re-appears in her life. Will she or won't she? Story lines getting better and better. Moving on to book three shortly.Worth reading!

I liked everything about this book. Charlie is a great character, and Sean is no slouch. The action is fast and furious, the book is in the unputdownable class, thank you Zoe for such a good read, I have read all the series and am very eagerly waiting for the next story.

Okay, so in July 2012 I gave in to the nagging feeling that I was missing out. Every time I looked on Facebook I kept seeing people take about Zoe Sharp and the character Charlie Fox. Not one to miss out I immediately read the first book in the series and LOVED it. I have finally got around to book 2 and finished it in less time than the first.

Charlie Fox is ex-special forces, however that may sound like a `bog standard' character template for a female lead, but she is far from standard. Charlie Fox is an ordinary woman with a very interesting past. Yep, she was in the special-forces but eventually kicked out due to a harrowing event that has gone on to make her a little bit cynical. Currently working at a gym and house-sitting for her friend she has no idea that things are about to go a little crazy in her life. I really like Charlie Fox as a character and although she certainly has some skills, she isn't what you would call the most settled of people.

The thing about a good series is that you begin to learn about the characters as each book is released. Sharp does a cracking job of feeding enough to keep the reader interested, but too little for you to feel you really have the whole picture. It's what makes people continue to read series like these. With Charlie's house stay coinciding with a rush of violence on the estate, she finds herself trapped between toeing the line with the law, and getting involved to help get to the truth of what's going on. In typical Charlie style, the trouble comes looking for her.

With the London riots reasonably recent, it made the events in this book that little bit more real for me. What I didn't account for was a character from Charlie's past, Sean Meyer' turning up and rocking the boat.
