Product Description

Product Description

Rio Ferdinand is widely acknowledged as one of the most talented defenders in the world. His transfer from West Ham to Leeds set a British record, a feat he repeated with his subsequent move to Manchester United. Ferdinand’s success on the pitch has been meteoric – including high drama in the Champions League, a World Cup (where, in 2002, he was the outstanding English player) and a dramatic Premiership victory. He is set to be a key member of the England team that will challenge for the World Cup in 2006.

If success on the pitch has kept Ferdinand on the back pages, his off-pitch story has made him a regular on the front pages. Here for the very first time, Ferdinand reveals all about his infamous missed drugs test, the controversies surrounding both his transfers, his supposed reluctance to re-sign for United in 2005, the alleged tapping-up meeting with Chelsea’s Peter Kenyon and various sex, driving and anti-social behaviour scandals. Beyond the football, Ferdinand’s personal story will also fascinate. Here he discusses his upbringing in Peckham, his work with young offenders and his music label which provides unique opportunities for underprivileged youths.

About the Author

Born in Peckham, Ferdinand signed for West Ham as a schoolboy, turning professional at the age of 17. He debuted in May 1996 and played 158 games for the Hammers before transferring to Leeds United in November 2000, with whom he reached the Champions League semi-final in 2001. Following his star performance in the 2002 World Cup, he joined Manchester United. He made his England debut in March 1998 and has won 43 caps, scoring one vital goal in the 2002 World Cup.

Absolute Tosh! 9 Oct 2006
Format:Hardcover
I tend to read most sports biographys when they are released. Why is it that footballers write the worst biographies, especially players that are still in the game? Why do they feel an urge to write about their "career" after only a few years? Why not wait until they have retired and have more interesting things to write about. Could it be to do with money!!!! This book is a typical example. Yes, Rio has done well for himself, yes he is a talented footballer, but there is nothing in this book that hasn't been said a hundred times or more in other biographies. Avoid.

It must be very difficult to retain a degree of reality when you are being paid in excess of £100k per month and Ferdinand fails miserably.

He starts the book by asking people not to judge him as a greedy, conceited arrogant person until you have read the book. He then goes on to prove he is all of those and more.
His lack of repect for anyone in authority shines through and to liken missing his drugs test as similar to misplacing your car keys sums things up.

Badly written, uninteresting. His only interest is to make more money to add to his wad and buy more bling. Stick to what your good at, which is.....er.....actually I'm not sure, attention seeking? The man comes over as a conceited whinger, who has unproffessionally used this book as a means of abusing those who have earned his disfavour.

Avoid like the plague. It is ridiculously overpriced for what it is. Oh, there is a redeeming feature, it is useful for squashing wasps, having a large surface area (presumably to enable the use of a large enough font so that the standard Rio fan can actually understand the words, which in some cases are over four letters long.).
