This expansion to Carcassonne includes 6 new translucent followers ( 1 for each player color ) and rules for the use in the Carcassonne game. During play a player may place this phantom as a second follower on the board. In this way he may score twice on the same tile. When a player gets back the phantom, he may use it in a later turn as well. The phantom can also be used alone and count as a regular follower.

A small little expansion for the big game... I forgot about it for most of the game as it only adds one extra piece to your collection but is quite good for getting a few extra sneaky points here and there.

This is a great little expansion, which can also be used in Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers. The Phantom is a translucent "meeple" which can be used to make a 2nd move on your turn. You play one meeple as usual, then the Phantom plays on a second feature on that tile. Example: play on a city and also on a road on the same tile. Or it can be used as any other meeple if he's all you've got left.

Our family has the Carcassonne Big Box 3 plus the Carcassonne: The River 1 Exp so I was afraid that we were becoming expansion-happy and that yet another expansion would overwhelm us and affect the "play-ability" (as it is, when we try to play with every expansion we have, inevitably someone loses track and it gets messy). However, the Phantom is a really easy addition--now we're so used to it, we can't play without it! The Phantom just gives you one more meeple in addition to your original follower that you can play on the same tile and in the same turn. For $5, it's totally worth it.

These are great extra pieces if you're a Carcassonne fan. The included rule, (that you can play this piece on another feature of a tile on which you just placed another follower,) works well but seems a bit overpowered, really ramping up the points you can earn in a game. But since each player has one of these, it balances pretty well, making it seem a bit pointless. It's easy enough to tweak the rules make this attractive piece work better though.
