This book was written before Anne Mccaffrey moved to the planet Pern and is not a sci-fi. To me it rates with a Linda Howard for readability. Nialla's father was murdered a year before the book starts, events following his death make her decide to change her name, hair colour and move from West Coast to East coast USA. The 'ring' in the title is the show jumpng ring and how Nialla makes her living. Life is hard, but she is just coping when a series of nasty 'accidents' occur. Help comes from an unusual hero, Rafe is just Nialla's height, an ex- jockey, divorced twice and with a reputation for charming women. He wants to protect Nialla, but can she be sure she is the prize or her winning jumper Orfeo? When blackmail starts they must find her father's killer to have any future together. This book is one you cannot put down and you do not find all the answers until the last page.
