Having agonised for a while over the prices of premium LED torches (LED Lenser, Fenix, Eagletac etc), I decided I probably couldn't justify £30-50 on a torch, so went for this Ring Cyba-Lite Rebel instead, as it seemed good value given its features and respectable light output rating. Well I'm not disappointed, especially for the price I paid. It's the brightest torch I've ever owned, with a decent range, and a reasonably effective flood-to-spot focus (by twisting the head). It provides bright white light, and runs on 2 ordinary AA batteries (comes with Duracells, but I'll probably use some decent NiMH rechargeables when those are exhausted).

The switch can be pressed slightly and held for temporary operation, or clicked in if you want it to stay switched on. The only notable omission compared to the fancier brands is the multi-power option (e.g. where you can have it on half-power mode to conserve battery life). And maybe the ability to 'tail-stand' (stand on end in a sort of candle mode), although the likes of LED Lensers don't appear to offer that feature either.

Build quality seems good, just a slight rattle from the batteries in the body (which may be a good sign, as I've read about some torches struggling to accomodate some brands of rechargeable which are marginally thicker than the average AA). The switch and focus both have a good feel to them. Comes with a wrist lanyard too. All in all, recommended if you need a powerful, no-nonsense handheld torch at a reasonable price.

This is an amazing torch - I'm not going to bang on about it, but here is the review I left for its bigger brother, the so-called "Elite"

I acquired two Ring torches over Christmas after doing A LOT of research. This one (the Elite) and the Rebel. There is no comparison between the two. The smaller Rebel I estimate to be FOUR times brighter than the Elite.

Why Ring produce the Elite is a mystery to me, when they have another torch at similar price that is so much better. Originally a bought a Rebel for my mum last fireworks day and was amazed at its brilliance compared with everybody else's torch, even those brick-sized ones. I purchased the Elite thinking it would be even better - what a shock! Luckily my mum bought me a Rebel, so now I have both. The Elite may double as a hammer for breaking up rocks on your SAS survival course, but if you want a really, really bright torch, go for the Rebel. The extra large LED bulb and the big lens on the front produce an almost square projected pure white light with minimal light scatter. The effect is rather like a slide projector, except the Rebel is about the size of a large felt-pen.

Aside from the Elite being a relatively dim torch, the stiff switch which you need to on, off, on, off to cycle through the bulb options is irritating and slow. My two-and-a-half year old daughter likes it though, she turns it on once and says "orange", then again for "blue". I rest my case. Get the Rebel, you won't be disappointed!

get this one!!! just came today. very very impressed. stupidly looked at the beam and i was blinded for like 10 minutes,so you know its good ;) ideal for whenever you need a tourch, oddly enough. sturdy build and a nice finish. wont roll off a flat surface as it has grooves at the base. would have given it 5 stars but it doesnt melt stuff when you point it :/. all in all an amazing bit of kit. would advise anyone to buy this product. if youre thinking of opting for a mag or lenser, this is easily up there, and you save a bit of cash too. lets face it youre only paying for the name in most cases. in this instant, dont pay for the names. get this one, you wont be let down.
