This little torch is even better than I expected actually. I decided to buy two of these to replace two 'keychain' Maglite AAA Solitaires (both bought through 7DaysShop in 2007) after being told about the improved battery longevity and superiority of LED torches due to LEDs lower power requirements. Torches like these may seem like useless toys, but let me tell you they aren't: my wife used her little Solitaire a year and a half back when the lift at work broke down sending her and the elderly lady she was stuck in the lift with into pitch blackness. This little torch enabled her to read the emergency contact number label inside the lift and shout it down to a member of staff below..they should have had it already really, I know.
Side by side, these Ring LED Cyba Lite "LightStar" torches knock the Maglite AAA Solitaires out of orbit quite frankly. They are far superior in brightness to the Maglites, especially given their diminutive size, and the light is white with a blue tinge, not yellow like with bulbs...and no dark spot as with bulbs.
The LightStars are exactly 1cm shorter than the Maglite Solitaires, but then the LightStars don't need a spare bulb in the end cap. The LightStars are slightly wider in diameter, but only by about 2mm. The keychain has a rotating joint, which is necessary believe me: without it keyring torches tend to gradually unscrew and fall away unnoticed (Maglite Solitaires tend to do this).
The one feature of the dinky Solitaires that made it unique was its 'candle' feature: unscrew the head and it exposes the bulb. Obviously you don't get this with the LightStars, being that they are LEDs, but I can live with that.
Turning the torches on and off is done the same way as the Maglites, by rotating the torch head. Personally, I would have preferred that the torches were 1cm longer and an on/off button on the end, as with the bigger Ring Cyba-lite Rebels.
At £6.99 a go I do think they are slightly overpriced. I paid £5.99 each for the Solitaires approx. 3 years ago, and I think these should be no more than that as well...or even better, a pack of 2 for £9.99 would be perfect. However, aside the price quibble, both my wife and I are pleased with our new Cyba Lite "LightStars", and the quality is easily comparable with the Maglites, although the Cyba-lites are much, brighter than the Maglites, so can't complain.
I've snapped and uploaded a few 'customer images' of these torches for a better look.
