Product Description

Winter is typically a bad time for car batteries. The big freeze, coupled with inactivity over the winter period increases the natural discharge of car batteries. Already in 2009 the AA has reported that a record number of call outs with 18,000 calls on the 5th of January alone. Along with checking tyre pressure, the screen wash, the oil and lighting, battery power is another vital car check that should be carried out before driving. The figures from the AA would suggest that motorists are not carrying out regular health tests on their batteries. To help motorists, Ring Automotive has brought out a new battery monitor, the RBA3. It has an in built automatic circuit selection making them compatible with 12v and 24v vehicles. To make checking your battery even easier, the RBA3 plugs directly into your vehicles DC socket. There is no need to lift the bonnet. As well a providing an accurate digital read out of the battery voltage, the voltmeter comes with three coloured LED indicators. A green light means the battery is in good health, an amber light suggests the battery requires a charge and red light indicates you battery needs immediate reviving. It is small and compact for easy storage in any vehicle, making it ideal to have to hand for regular checking. If the worse comes to the worse and the battery does need charging, Ring Automotive as a charger specialist, has a range of battery chargers including its SmartChargers which will recharge deeply discharged batteries and will not over charge the battery, which are also available in our amazon shop.

Neat and efficient little gadget for keeping an eye on your battery's condition.
Connects to the cigar lighter socket and shows state of charge at rest and level of supplied charge with engine running.
Great for the price.

Having now had two alternator failures (once when I was miles from anywhere) I would have appreciated being pre-warned of a battery charging problem so I have been waiting for something as good as this for some time now. The ones I have had before were either unreadable or unreliable. This one is extremely well made and will stand a lot of knocking about in the car toolkit or glovebox.
This device simply plugs into the 12v outlet (formerly called the 'cigarette lighter socket') and shows what is happening to the battery having a clear digital voltage meter and three LED indicators for Low, Normal and high Voltages.
It is an extremely useful device to have but do not leave it in the garage - you need it in the car at all times - you never know when you might need it !!!

This product did exactly what I required. It was able to give me exact battery voltage while static, and indicated charge voltage while engine running. Using the cigar lighter it only took seconds.

A great little gadget for people who don't use their car very often. Practical too because you don't even have to open the hood! It gives one sort of a safe feeling. I certainly do recommend it.

Does a neat job of keeping an eye on battery condition - especially if you drive an 'older' car. Wish I had one handy before the battery (I am told it was the 'original) died on my 12 year old car. Very, very simple to use (and interpret) if you read the instructions and allow for the fact that it can ever only be a very useful but unsophisticated guide. When you are getting no green, just the occasional amber and regular red - ACT.

how do you know whats going on without instructions. easy.! if the reading is showing 12.6 or more then your battery is in a fully charged state. 12.5 is 90%. 12.42 is 80% 12.32 is 70% down to 10.5% being fully discharged. the traffic light system is green, amber & red all on = good state of charge. amber & red poor, red only, get out & push!

I needed a tester to check my car batteries & this has done exactly that. Especially useful if we have the same winter as last year.

It does what it says. You can find out if your battery needs re-charging without opening the bonnet. It does not tell you if the battery is knackered. You would only know that by charging it and finding it made no difference. I found the lead a little short.
