I only downloaded "Capriccio espagnol," so I'm not aware of how good the rest of it is, but based on the fiery bursts of that piece alone, I'm wondering how it is that I've gone this long without ever hearing of this Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. What a great performance! The tempos are terrific, and the clarinet and violin solos playful. When downloaded, the fourth and fifth tracks of this piece will require gapless playback, and that was achieved without any difficulty. In fact, they played seamlessly without my having to choose gapless iTunes playback at all!
Bakels seems perfectly aware of the brightness and joyous abandon of what Rimsky-Korsakov wrote. This one really shines. Just listen to the violins' high-pitched harmonics during the finale. I have a feeling this will be the version of "Capriccio" that I listen to for years to come.
