Product Description

Review
""Rimbaud and Jim Morrison" retraces Wallace Fowlie's personal itinerary as much as it opens new doors to critical inquiry. This refreshing and lively volume combines the personal and the universal, the analytical and the descriptive, the canonical and the secular."
--Pierre J. Lapaire," French Review"

5.0 out of 5 stars MORRISON FANS BEWARE..., 22 Jun 2005
By D. Bibb "Crimson Ghost" (Birmingham,UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book was abit of a shock impulsive buy, thinking it would be a bonus to my Doors/Morrison collection.
Being abit of a reader,I decided to attempt to read it and boy it's excellant.
The man loves Rimbaud and converted me,so much I now own the complete works and the story of his Africa years.Morrison loved Rimbaud and the writer shows the connection. In the first chapter it shows how both men lead the same path. Then a chapter summary on Rimbaud and his poems. Then a simular summary on Morrison.
I strongly recommending this study of two great poets.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For Doors Fans, 8 Aug 2008
By John Mccormick "Max Demon" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Very refreshing to read a book that simply concentrates on the work of Jim Morisson rather that the life he led. Fowlie seems to see much in Jim's writing that is obviously influenced by Rimbaud. Notably a shared artistic vision. He gets you closer to Morisson than a lot of bio's do because he takes you on a journey into this vision and so is able to take you on an internal tour of the world Morisson inhabited. Get the impression that this is one of the books Morrison would most want his fans to read, as it asks questions of the reader and takes you to some of those places, rather than just appeal to the need for a voyeuristic escape into the world of the 'Lizard King' as many of the bio's do.

You come away from it feeling that you know Morisson and the work of the Doors on a much deeper level. For Biography's about Morisson I'd recommend 'Life,Death, Legend' by Stephen Davis.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for anyone interested in Morrison or Rimbaud., 22 May 1996
By A Customer
Wallace Fowlie has always managed to combine serious literary criticism with personal, anecdotal prose, and this book may well be the best example. As he says repeatedly, the people who came to his lectures because they were Doors fans or Jim Morrison fans walked away knowing more about Rimbaud and French poetry than they ever thought they would. Fowlie also includes stories of his own experience lecturing which provide an interesting insight into one of the best translators and critics still living today.
