If you are looking for a 50MHz general purpose digital oscilloscope, this would seem to be an excellent choice from my experience so far. It is astonishingly good value for money in my opinion. I can't comment on its long term reliability yet for obvious reasons (!) but it seems well built. It is easy to use and does everything I had hoped it would. You might still want to keep a quality analog oscilloscope around too (for higher bandwidth, measurement flexibility and the much higher "update rate" I'm hanging on to my Tektronix 7834, but the Rigol will do most of what I need).
You can also control the scope from a computer via USB, although I haven't made use of that facility yet.
The only issue I had was that the scope came with a European mains lead. My advice is to discard this and use a UK mains lead as soon as you unpack the box, unless you are very sure you have a European to UK adapter that includes the earth pin. As stated clearly in the manual, the device *must* be grounded, otherwise you will find the ground side of the input BNCs floating at around 100VAC with respect to mains ground!
In my opinion, to get a significantly better digital oscilloscope (e.g. one with a faster update rate for a more "analog" experience) you would need to spend an order of magnitude more money. For hobbyists (like me) this device seems like a very good way to go.

This is one of the most popular entry-level digital storage oscilloscopes on the market and for a reason. Packed with features, this instrument is practically on par with its top-brand counterparts in the same DSO category yet it is available for a fraction of the price.

One thing to consider is that the software shipped with this product doesn't work out-of-the-box. One needs to go to the RIGOL website and download the updated version of the software, which is, of course, a minor problem.

Overall, this is excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

The Rigol 50Mz dual trace oscilloscope is a replacement for my very elderly 6MHz twin gun valve scope.
It is amazingly light and intuitive to use with a wealth of features undreamed of when my Solartron scope was made.
The price is equally amazing and I have no hesitation in recommending it, especially for non professional use where value for money is important.

You're not buying a multi thousand pound scope that will deliver high level results. You're buying an amateur / general purpose scope for non critical applications. At that job the Rigol is amazing, given it's cost and offers facilities that make it very versatile and it can be expanded into over time. I've not had it long enough to comment on long term performance but so far it's met and exceeded all my expectations.

I wanted a new scope without spending a fortune. I found the Rigol DS1052E when watching the Dave Jones eevblog.com
YouTube channel. It does seem to get very good reviews, more so than some other Chinese brands. I checked out Amazon
and found M&S selling it there. M&S were very efficient at answering email enquiries so I decided to place an order,
it wasn't in stock but I was assured delivery wouldn't take long. 3 days after ordering it it was delivered direct from
China. I am very pleased with it, the build quality is very good. The screen is quality is good, the switches seem solid,
it is small and light weight. The fan sound doesn't really bother me, some people have commented on it but I wouldn't describe it as noisy.
An amazing little scope and an excellent service by M&S.

This is the best value for money at the moment by far and away. This is the second one I have purchased, the first one got sucked into the lab. and I still needed one, so I had to purchase a second one. That says it all really.
