Product Description

Product Description

In this book Dr Edward de Bono, who is well-known worldwide for his origination of lateral thinking, puts forward a direct challenge to what he calls the ‘rock logic’ of Western thought. Rock logic is based on rigid categories, absolutes, argument and adversarial point scoring. Edward de Bono believes that this thinking cannot solve our problems. Instead of rock logic, he proposes the water logic of perception. Drawing on our understanding of the brain as a self-organizing information system, Dr de Bono shows that perception is the key to more constructive thinking and creativity. Here, in this brilliantly argued assault on outmoded thought patterns, he calls for nothing less than a New Renaissance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different angle, 11 Feb 2005
In all sincerity, I have found this book very helpful to me. I have always thought along very rigid lines and this book has helped to toss me out of the rut of my own making. I am reminded of the fictional philosopher of Flann O'Brien, De Selby and his view that most people see the world as round, when infact it is sausage-shaped. Very few people get to walk the length of the sausage. This book introduces you to the walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, 26 April 2007
By S. J. Merrick (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is not yet another recycling of de Bono's 'six hats'. This is simple common sense, explained clearly. Important and fundamental philosophical truths are there, ready to be spotted, but not bothersome or too demanding. Read this book carefully, think about it, and come to your own conclusions. The author deserves nothing less!
