4.0 out of 5 stars the acoustic delights of wizz jones 30 Oct 2005
By Nazboy
Format:Audio CD
If you are a fan of acoustic folk, contemporary or traditional, then you will thoroughly enjoy this CD. The songwriting is fantastic, the arrangements original and after many listens I can't find a bad track on here.

I find it quite surprising that nobody has written a review of this album yet. Wizz has been around for a long time, but maybe it is just because he has never gotten the notoriety he deserves that he is often overlooked. He was around at the same time as Jansch and Renbourn and has played with them both.

I first came across Wizz from reading a Nick Drake biography and hearing a couple of his tracks on the Bert Jansch compilation 'Acoustic Routes'. He was a prominent figure back in in the 60's folk scene and I think some of his guitar work is up there with the best solo acoustic artists from that time.

I am hoping that more of Wizz's old stuff gets a cd release. Judging by his website he's made quite a few albums.

Good stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Playing 24 Feb 2010
Format:Audio CD
For those that are interested, Wizz is still one of the best and playing as well as ever. He has Legendary status, up there with Davy Graham, and anything by him is worth a listen. I saw him last night at Dartford Folk Club and he never fails to delight. If you missed seeing any of the greats from the sixties then don't miss Wizz. Check his web-site for when he is playing at a club near you. You won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A WIZZ OF AN ARTIST 6 Nov 2009
Format:Audio CD
I was not lucky enough to see Wizz Jones live when I used to go to the folk clubs around where I live, back in the late 60's early 70's - I did see Ralph McTell, Michael Chapman, John Martyn and others. It was during a McTell gig that he mentioned Wizz Jones, so I rushed out and bought his U.A. L.P. It was brilliant, a collections of songs from rag time to love songs, I thought 'Shall I Wake You From Your Sleep' was excellent (Wizz re-recorded this song on a later album). Enough about other artists and albums. Right Now is a great mixture of songs, for me nothing particular stands out, but that is a good sign because it means that the whole album is of a constant standard - and that standard is very good. I think that whatever Wizz Jones album you buy, you will get a good quality set of songs, so grab this one while you can and, if anyone ever re-releases that U.A. album, grab that as well. A wizz of an album, a Wizz of an artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for 70's UK folk guitar fans 4 Nov 2010
By G. Putman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Wizz Jones was one of the most important figures in the 60's-70's UK folk rock scene. After hearing this album you will understand why. He had an amazing acoustic guitar technique, and was unique in the way he experimented with different tunings. I don't know if this is his best, but it has to be right up there in his top 3 recordings. Includes originals, and some covers.... some basically solo, and some with a band backing him (including John Renbourn on sitar on a couple of tracks). Has a couple of eastern sounding songs (like everyone was doing back then...but I won't hold that against him). Get it if your into Bert Janish and Davey Graham.
