What memories this brings back. Al Read was a wonderful comedian - he could conjure up whole situations and several characters with his monologues, and he was always so true and so funny. Clean, clever comedy!

A trip down memory lane certainly but also an insight as to how humour has moved on in the last 50 years. Still, Al Read was a master at articulating the mean-spirited attitute of many people. An example is the sketch of a man making toast for breakfast and just as he is about to add some spread his wife remarks that 'I hope you know that's the last bit of butter we've got'.

Al Read can do both male and female parts of a sketch but doesn't resort to falsetto. He still conveys the strengths and weaknesses of the intimate relationship between partners.
