Review

'A taut thriller ... fast, funny and mean' Bloomberg Praise for BREAKING VEGAS: 'A very enjoyable read that makes you feel like you're right there in Vegas playing along. Semyon's story is a fascinating, true-life adventure' Kevin Spacey 'Glamorous, exciting and true, it's a tale to send the Ocean's Eleven back to bussing tables for tips.' Arena Praise for BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE: 'An extraordinary story... a book that will surely become a classic of its genre' Sunday Express

Product Description

"Rigged" tells an incredible rags-to-riches story of David Russo, an Italian-American upstart from the streets of Brooklyn who claws his way into the wild, frenetic world of the testosterone-laced warrens of the Merc Exchange, the asylum-like oil trading center located in lower Manhattan where billions of dollars trade hands every week, a place where former garbagemen become millionaires overnight and fistfights break out on the trading floor. But the Merc is just the starting place of an adventure that leads David to private yachts in Monte Carlo, the gold-lined hotel palaces of Dubai, and dangerous deals in the back alleys of Beijing. "Rigged" tells the true story of one man's adventure to revolutionize the oil trading industry - and along with it, the world.

An ok read if you have nothing else to do. Not particularly thrilling and written very much from an American point of view. Some very dull sections of dialogue with people apparently knowing nothing about Dubai. Some interesting parts trying to describe the trading floor.
Really just a puff piece of a biography of a successful young trader.

A good, easy read 11 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
If you like Ben Mezrich and have read any of his other books then you'll love this. Its the tail of a young italian-american "harvard" boy. Following his role in a new job and travels that follow. As with his other books Mezrich does a good job at setting the scene, without the book getting bogged down with too much description. The language used in the book make reading it easy, no use of big words just for the sake of it. It could finish a bit better, its kind of left open for a sequal, but i dont think there is, or will be, one.

Overall a good read if you like his other stuff, or tales of young success, then this is the book for you.

dubai politeness 17 July 2010
Format:Paperback
ben ben i think we're getting to know your schtick. when you told stories about unknown gamblers and traders it was quite a good read (only your fascination with girls and drink is a bit tedious). but you go up in the world and when you write about easily identified people you lose every tooth in your big mouth. the islamic scholars debating the merits of an exchange is quite hillarious. i am sure they are happy. the anonymus charachtars in other books never stopped drinking and having wild sex, the guy who we all know is such a moral giant you might mistake him for a certain danish prince. so maybe time for a new career. and by the way, the facebook book was not so great either.
