I have to say ,Western novels are not usually my preferred reading, however once in a while I come across an absolute Gem, this is such a read. Van Holt is a master of his craft and up there with the best. This western adventure has the lot.Bounty hunters, revenge, Indian attacks, romance and excellent descriptions that put you at the heart of the action. An excellent read with a twist in the tail.If you like westerns,I can recommend this.

Van Holt takes you on a journey through time. Back to America in its youth. When life was hard and tomorrow uncertain. A time when men were cruel and heartless, when the law was "survival of the meanest".It is here we meet a young boy named Jim Ryden and his family, headed west. Looking to start a new life his dad had bought a deed to a farm sight unseen. Traveling alone was dangerous that is why most folks hooked up with a wagon train.

Jim's pa didn't and paid the ultimate price. They managed to get their son away from the camp so he did not have to witness the murder of his dad or the more heinous acts perpetrated upon his mom. He is shot by a man who he thought might have been the answer to his prayers. Bill Random finds him and takes him under his wing..he teaches the young lad how to survive and how to fight. Then one day Jim Ryden rides out to seek his vengeance...that is only the beginning if what you read here is intriguing buy the book and find out how this quest ends. Van Holt's books should come with a warning they are so addictive.
