Product Description

Alexis Korner is the founding father of British rhythm and blues. We have updated our previous two disc celebration of Korner's irrefutable contribution to modern music to include his 1962 album 'R&B From The Marquee'. Whether solo, part of Blues Incorporated or collaborating with fellow guitarist Davy Graham his pedigree is obvious. Alexis played with and influenced musicians such as Jack Bruce, Charlie Watts and Ginger Baker, so sit back and get well and truly acquainted with an icon of British blues.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful By M. Dowden HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 25 Feb. 2014
It is now thirty years since Alexis Korner passed away, but his music and inspiration still lives on. People like Keith Richards and Mick Jagger played with him, as well as Robert Plant, Rod Stewart and many others. Indeed his friends read like a Who’s Who of famous British musicians, and he also played on a B. B. King album. Starting out at a time when in this country Jazz was giving way to Skiffle and other music, Korner helped introduce us to the Blues, but whereas other musicians who then did the same only seemed to play one type, Korner gave us all the styles of Blues at the time.

Of course Korner wasn’t interested in just pure Blues, after all he had played Jazz, and Skiffle, and he started giving us proper Rhythm and Blues, as you can most definitely hear especially on the second album here. Arguably therefore Alexis Korner, with an ironic touch (he was born in Paris) has become the founding father of both British Blues, and Rhythm and Blues. We can never really know how much influence anyone has on the music scene, but in the case of Korner you can still hear his influence through those who were his friends and others who have since come along, and long may this stay so.

What you have here are two albums, the first containing twenty tracks, and the second album containing twelve tracks is the legendary ‘R&B From The Marquee’. The tracks have been digitally re-mastered and so are cleaner and crisper than some other albums on the market.

In all this is a great double album CD to own and is a pleasure to listen to. Especially if you are into Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, you will absolutely love the second CD here, and throughout both albums there is some harmonica playing, which I always enjoy. It is funny though, that when I play my harmonica I always seem to give people the Blues.
