I found this book to be full of information in all areas of study. General enough as to not scare off those who might choose to practice a specific Tradition, and specific enough to lend guidance to those who are new to the area of study. I believe it a must for any New Generation Witch. A guide to further expansion of your own system, to be used in conjunction with other reference material. Silver RavenWolf has proven to be open-minded and knowledgeable, and makes the learning process enjoyable. A must even if you are not interested in becoming involved with the Craft, as it proves that every point of view can add to the whole we make in our own minds of what to believe and what to disregard. My reason for only giving it 4 stars is that I haven't read enough books in this category to make an accurate assessment, however I have enjoyed this the most, so far... I keep it as a permanent addition to my "tools". Thank you Silver RavenWolf

Lets face it (In my experience at least)- most of us these days are solitairies some 70% of the time, Silver Ravenwolf valiantly attempts to pass on basic skills to the novice.

This is a good basic book for those just starting out. In my opinion a bit lacking in certain areas (History for one). However; if used in conjunction with Scott Cunningham's books or The Witches Bible by the Farrars or a multitude of others then you will get a better read on and feel for the subject. As a loner-book this comes up short in a few areas.

The advantages of this book are its no nonsense style and hand-holding for rituals if you need it, and simplified explanations.

The disadvantages are the mother to daughter/son talks and plethora of magickal occurances within the authors life - which can distract and cause you to lose focus, as well as the tests. While tests are good, they have a tendency to limit one to the knowledge at hand forgetting personal experiences of the testee.

While I do not agree with some of Silver Ravenwolf's statements, she has her path to walk as I do mine, and as do we all. I can say her writing did get me to consider certain ideas, plus has started me thinking in a few new directions.

As with any book on any subject read it - and then judge it, if judge you must. My advice if you want it is Buy this book to use in conjunction with several others and do not depend on any one book as the be-all end-all of your knowledge.

This is an excellent book for beginners or skilled practioners because it offers all Wiccan ethics, tools of the trade, spells and celebrations- everything you need to know to get started or brush up on Witchcraft!I would you advice everything written by Silver Ravenwalf because she is simply a fabulous author, she also a mother so tells things how they are- not how others want you to see it and shows you how to create a magickal name and gives lists of suppliers and various pagan and Wiccan magazines and news letters available about the community. She explains everything so clearly and in such a humorous way you can't help but enjoy yourself during the reading. Buy a cheap notebook before starting to read this book because she asks you to buy one anyway and write down any personal views .eg. during the tools section she asks you to design an altar and design a magicakl name etc. A truly fantastic book, a definite buy for anyone serious about the craft and just right for the modern witch because she asks for down to earth things required during her spells and rituals .eg candles, scented oils and some simple gemstones and crystals (quartz, rose quartz, amethyst)- no over the top ingrediants like the fur or feathers of a rare or un-heard of animal. Shes gives list of herbs and what they are used for, what gemstones are needed for, how to cast the circle (and close it obviously), and recipes for holy water, florida water, thunder water etc. Everything a beginner needs. Blessed Be.
