Product Description

Product Description

Ride em Alvin! Yep, it's the fastest guitar slinger in the west, back in action with a hot new band. Well, it was hot and new back in 1979 when this hard rockin album was first released. Ten Years Later was the group Alvin put together to replace Ten Years After, when he wanted to get back on the road after the original band split in 1974. Alvin teamed up with Tom Compton (drums) and Mick Hawksworth (bass), fine musicians who are featured on the live and studio recordings that comprised the original LP. The leader described the live recording featured as A true and faithful recording of Ten Years Later on stage with no overdubs or effects . You can hear Alvin and the boys get stuck into Ain't Nothin Shakin , Hey Joe and, of course, Going Home - a blistering eight-minute version of the famed boogie shuffle. The other five tracks were recorded in Alvin's Space Studio. If you like rock stripped to the bone and played with a real feeling for the blues, this is a feast of fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seventies rock with 2K attitude 6 Jan 2001
Format:Audio CD
Some rock music is just to tame and precise. The best live music should be a little sweaty, a little raw. 'Ride On', half of which was recorded live should be played loud and enjoyed. The three-piece band led by Alvin Lee is tight, powerful and gritty. If you like excellent lead guitar breaks listen to 'Ain't nothing Shakin', taken from the 'Rocket Fuel' album it confirms Alvin has lost none of his speed! The classic 'Hey Joe' is as close to Hendrix as you might care to get, but with added attitude. TYA fans may remember the 'Recorded Live' version of 'Going Home'; it was a sculpted piece of work. The 'Ride On' version leaves it standing. Its got more drive than even the 'original' Woodstock recording and is a energy packed 8.46 minutes. The studio tracks have an American feel (ZZ Top). The gem is 'It's a Gaz'. Hard to describe and harder not to hum after you have heard it a few times. 'Too Much', 'Sittin' Here' and 'Can't Sleep At Night' are formula rock, a bit of power chord, nondescript lyrics and stomping lead solos. The odd ball track 'Ride On Cowboy' is almost easy listening and not the first track to play. As part of this album it can be enjoyed because it gives you time to breath, even if the air has a distinct 'country' whiff. Much of seventies music is well past its sell by date, however 'Ride On' is not even crispy around the edges and well worth a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ten Years Later 18 Mar 2003
By Tsi-na-pah - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
there is an error in the group's name. This is Alvin Lee with "Ten Years Later", not with his mitical "Ten Years After". Anyway, Alvin Lee's guitar sounds so good like always. Pure blues and rock&roll. Much better than the solos from Alvin Lee in the 80's.
