Positive.
1)The action is hardcore & it doesn't hold back the gore, Check out the scene with the box as it's worth seeing the movie just for that sequence.
2)No 12a toned down rubbish here thank god.
3)Great tension & atmosphere the build up is slow but the pay offs worth it.
4)Vin Diesel is on top form playing this character you can see for Vin is a labour of love.

Negative.
1)Slows up after an exciting first 20 minutes then takes a while to get going again.
2)It's similar to Pitch Black in tone so it loses a little originality.

Quality.
A great clear sharp vibrant picture quality with superb crystal clear sound throughout the movie, I've experienced no glitches or loading problems.

Trivia.
1)Vin Diesel made a cameo appearance in Fast & The Furious Tokyo Drift in exchange for the right's to the Riddick character which he was allowed to produce independently.
2)Riddick takes place 5 year's after The Chronicles Of Riddick which took place 5 year's after Pitch Black making this movie 10 year's set after the original although 13 year's have passed between production on Riddick & Pitch Black.

Not sure why this film is getting the roasting it is. While it may not be the deepest of films, it is a superior action/SF film that more than holds its own against the competition.

I will admit straight away to liking the unloved Chronicles of Riddick, so you may want to throw up your hands in horror and walk away now. While that got slated, at least it tried to do something different to Pitch Black. Vin Diesel worked hard to get Riddick back on screen, and if nothing else it shows his commitment to the character.

The film Riddick is taking the story back to basics. The first 20 minutes are so are excellent, when you see Riddick abandoned for dead on a nameless planet, his struggle to survive and then how he rears and befriends an alien dog. After he kills an alien beast, he finds an empty outpost and entices 2 rival groups of mercenaries down on to the planet. This effectively reestablishes the character, and demonstrates why the mercenaries who are hunting him see him as such a threat.

There is an all-too-brief flashback of Riddick among the Necromongers after Chronicles, and then the main story shifts to the mercenaries, and Riddick playing cat-and-mouse with them, picking them off while using them to get transport off the planet.

A lot have people have said that Riddick is too much like Pitch Black, however for much of the film, Riddick is more like Rambo in Space, as he uses his stealth and wits to play the mercenaries against each other until he can take them on on his own terms. And the film nicely portrays the characters of the mercenaries too, so they are not just mindless grunts.

What can one say? Van Diesel being... Van Diesel! Great outing for fans of the Riddick series. More of the same, please.

Tired of being a ruler, Riddick (Vin Diesel) decides he wants to return to his home planet, only to be double crossed. In the first few minutes of the film Riddick displays his toughness by setting a broken bone in his own leg...then he puts screws in it. He makes friends with an alien dingo. Eventually he goes up against only eleven seasoned bounty hunters...and we know how that goes.

The special effects were decent. The dialouge meets our tough guy expectations. Good mix of drama and action, with a touch of levity. The plot is very simple, Riddick vs. bounty hunters vs. alien creatures. Good popcorn film.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, nudity (Katee Sackhoff + full frontal) sex talk.

I know a certain age group and mentality will probably think this film 'awesome', but, discerning science-fiction fans beware. I really liked 'Pitch black' and 'The Chronicles of Riddick' was superb, but I was very disappointed with this latest in the series. The plot was weak, the dialogue even weaker, and the 'action' was most disappointing; it seems to be one of those films made to cash-in on a franchise and to enable the star to buy a bigger house with his fee; payday films, I believe the Americans call them. If you must watch it, borrow a copy or wait for it to come on to television.

Sooooo... This film is kinda naff, though watch-able, in a mindless sort of way. I'd recommend it if you were ill and wanted to lie on the sofa and look at lights and noises without having to expend any intellectual or emotional effort. It's essentially ten thugs being rude to each in front of a CGI background, shooting pointless and unconvincing CGI monsters, for 2 hours. No-one is particularly likeable, not even Riddick (who comes across as a bit... rapey?) so you don't find yourself rooting for anyone in particular. You also aren't particularly hoping for a bad-guy to get his or her come-uppance either, as all the characters are pretty much jerks, just some more than others.

The pros:

- Dave Bautista is pretty good in this, showing the sort of acting chops that landed him a part in "Guardians of the Galaxy"

The cons:

- I got to the end of the film thinking there must be an hour or so left, due to the fact that it was so emotionally un-involving it felt like nothing had actually happened.

- The script is pretty awful, full of meaningless machismo, with some of the lines making you wonder if it was being intentionally offensive, like a potty-mouthed child who has just learned it's first real swearword.

- The editing lets the film stagnate time and again.

- There is a "cute" relationship between Vin Diesel's character and a CGI hyena/dog that is pretty excruciating. That said, the Hyenadog is probably the most likeable thing in the film.

- Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck from the Battlestar Galactica reboot) plays a feisty lesbian who Riddick continually leers over, which is pretty squirm inducing. I don't understand this aspect of the film AT ALL.
