Biographies that are written from a collection of tabloid journalism are the bane of my life. Ricky Gervais is a funny man, with a not terribly interesting 'back-story'. I wouldn't call myself, by any manner or means, a particularly 'dedicated' fan, but there was nothing in this book that I didn't know, other than spurious supposition on the author's part. As you read this, you think "OK... thats The Office bit, now on to Extras". I class this book along with biographies by Alison Bowyer of Dawn French and Graham Norton - I would swear that the authors have simply contacted a cuttings agency for stories on their subject and placed a gloss over them. Interviews cited are almost always from other sources. Nice work if you can get it, but I cannot recommend this in the slightest.
