This DVD is good in and of itself, but if you've listened to Ricky's show on XFM you have probably heard most of the observations that are on this disc (which Steven actually said on the show in jest at one time). Whether it's Ricky discussing spastics, talking about Humpty Dumpty, or telling the fable of the industrious mouse, you've heard it all before if you've listened to the show. If you haven't, you'll love this DVD.
By far the best bit on the DVD is the interview with Karl Pilkington, it's worth the 15 alone. I've always thought he was the funniest of the 3 on XFM.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricky Gervais - Politics 24 Aug 2004
After 'Animals' Gervais said he would be doing a new stand-up show early in the new year, so it was fortunate that I stumbled across a ticket hotline website and saw that tickets were on sale. I immediately bought some and wasnt surprised to see that they sold out pretty much everywhere within a couple of days. Since the success of The Office, Gervais has been acknowledged as a brilliant British comedian but instead of being type casted as a David Brent character he's broken away from the phenomenal success of The Office and instead is making a name for himself as an ccomplished stand up comedian. This is not surprising as Gervais has a 'natural' way about him that means his jokes and stories don't seem rehearsed - they just seem to come naturally to him as if he's speaking to a friend.
Politics opens up with a short video which sets the tone straight away - not only is it very very funny as he outlines "three political hot potatoes" on a passer-by in a wheelchair (actually played by The Office producer Ash Atalla) but the dialogue is very 'below the belt'. This isn't a problem for those who aren't easily offended- it's just Gervais's way of light-heartedly having a joke. Gervais goes on to discuss life outside of 'the office' and trouble being recognised and being called "Brent" but the bit where Gervais talks about his "favourite leaflet" had me in stitches. Not only is the leaflet funny in itself (Gervais was giggling through most of it) but he has a way of saying things and talking about things that just make them even more hysterical. I was disappointed when the show ended- I could easily have sat there all night and listened to Ricky Gervais discuss politics, and one things for sure- politics has never been so funny!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Animals! 27 Dec 2006
Whereas I found Animals pretty poor, I enjoyed this.

It isn't very political, anyone wanting musings on Marxism best look elsewhere. This is a series of funny anecdotes with loose references to politics. It is very funny though and worth a watch.

This isn't a Masterpiece, but it is good. As you'd expect there are some 'close-to-the-bone' moments to savour and some cracking 'offensive' comments.

Ricky seems confident and has obviously sourced some good material for this show, with Animals it seemed as though he picked the subject and then tried to find funny things to say around it, whereas with this it feels like he has built the comedy first and then linked it with the subject. It's nice to see some good stand-up from the Man considered as the current Comedy Genius.

For a start the main body of this dvd/video is disappointingly short; whereas 'Animals' was a full length stand up set Politics seems to be like going to a resaurant and only having a starter. The stuff he does is on the whole quite funny and at times really hysterical but just too short! The interview with Karl Pilkington (who produces Ricky's radio show)is very funny.
It is an ideal present and it is worth buying for yourself but it does leave one wondering whether people go a bit off the boil when everyone keeps telling them they are brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutly Fantastic 15 July 2004
Admitadly I am a Ricky Gervais fan and went there expecting to be in stitches, a late comer to the comedy scene I've found it hard to establish what makes him such a national treasure. As I watched the warm-up guy tell what were funny joke, delivered in a humourous way and made the audience laugh lightly, it always seemed as though he was trying to remember his lines and was thinking about how his jokes were coming across. As soon as Ricky Gervais came on the stage with a bottle of Grolsch and his common touch it suddenly felt as if you were with a mate at the pub. The way everytime he was going to say something outrageous (and trust me, this is NOT for the faint hearted), he squeeks or grins as if he knows what he says is extrememly controversial but is going to say it anyway just for the reaction. This innocence allows him to get away from several court cases but more importantly makes it the whole act a whole lot more genuine. Fantastic, genius at work

Gervais is quite the comedian, and though this is one of his older works, it is still funny and relevant even today, and at a very affordable price, a must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ricky Gervais Live 2 - Politics [DVD] [2004] 21 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Ricky Gervais' second live stand-up is very funny and well delivered. As an added bonus we get to meet Karl Pilkington, Ricky's friend who has a head like a mm'ing orange. Recommended for people who enjoy Ricky Gervais' humour.
