1.0 out of 5 stars Way below par, 11 Jan 2008
By Mark Whitlock - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Until watching this DVD I've been a huge fan of Ricky Gervais. The Office is genius, Extras brilliant, and the first two stand-up shows funny enough. I was looking forward to Fame. It was awful. The jokes about kids with cancer were particularly unpleasant and not in the slightest bit funny. I'd give it no stars if I could. Avoid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing, 3 Jan 2008
By J. R. Ingram (UK) - See all my reviews

I thought all of his past work has been excellent, this DVD is not. Lacking the depth and real observations of his last two stand up DVDs, this one relies on having a go at people who are different, or vunerable which any idiot could do. More discerning viewers could give this one a miss. I found it offensive, and bland which is not a winning combination.

I think good comedians can make us laugh and make us think about the world, and change perceptions of difficult issues for the better. This one is pandering to the mob mentalitiy and every lowest common denominator.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Tour Yet, 8 Jul 2007
By D. Reynolds (Hertfordshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I saw the stand-up in March at Brighton and got a fantastic seat with my family. The atmosphere was very good in the Centre and everyone was so anticipating seeing Ricky's 3rd tour! The support act was on which did drag a little bit but nonetheless was still funny!

Ricky enters as the King of Comedy with Queen's 'One Vision' playing which is funny already! Throughout the show he touches on some boundaries but limits them so he can make a hilarious joke out of it! People complain he's too offensive to those suffering in Africa and disabled people. If so, why does he give heaps of money to charity and open his first couple of gigs with proceeds going to charity? One of my favourite parts is his encore. He talks of an incident that occured when he saw X-Factor live and what happened during a commercial break with Chris Tarrant and Sharon Osbourne.

I won't spoil anymore for you but will say that I was laughing for pretty much the whole show! And thankfully the show was longer than Politics, we got out at around 10.30pm after starting at 9pm so that was good :) Great tour, best one yet I think! Pre-order now!

This is easily Gervais' best DVD yet. His materiel is as funny as ever and he has a way of making things that are disgusting into things that are quite harmless and funny. Read more

As always - pass me the cotton coz me sides have split. He just gets better and better - although he does need to be careful with the likes of Frankie Boyle out there!
