Product Description

Rick Wakeman s The Six Wives Of Henry VIII is one of the landmark albums of the seventies, a critical and commercial success that has sold in excess of 15 million copies worldwide. In May 2009, Rick Wakeman finally achieved his long held dream of performing the entire album live at Hampton Court Palace. It was the first time the whole album had ever been performed in concert & included the Henry VIII track Defender Of The Faith, that had to be cut from the original album for space reasons, plus new opening and closing pieces. The two spectacular sell out concerts were a never to be repeated event and this DVD shows why they will live long the memory of all those fortunate enough to attend

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant!, 6 Oct 2009
I sadly missed Rick's live gigs at Hampton Court, so was very pleased to see that the concert is now released on Blu-Ray - and the result is superb!

With the coverage running to over two hours, the quality of the HD video really shines - and it is so good to watch a concert video where the camera angles don't switch every few seconds - the direction / production quality has really been thought through well. Similarly, the sound quality is fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyable - although, personally, I'm not too sure about Brian Blessed reading his script from some tatty bits of A4 between songs (I guess you'll either love or hate his commentary - but it is done in good humour).

But overall there is simply nothing to dislike about this disc!

Buy it! Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality DVD concert from Rick Wakeman, 5 Nov 2009
By Remy's Dad (Durham UK) - See all my reviews
We missed out by a matter of hours getting tickets for this one off concert. So this DVD was eagerly awaited. We missed a great event. This is the best Release from Rick Wakeman both in content and sound and vision quality I have seen. If you were a fan of the original six wives, you are going to love this. Extended versions of the six tracks plus new music to include Henry himself. Magic. It's worth the money just to witness Brian Blessed having a blast as the narrator. Definatly reccomended

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost like being at Hampton Court, 14 Nov 2009
By L. Adamson "Real music fan" (Edinburgh, UK) - See all my reviews

We were there on the second night and this DVD captures the event pretty well. It is fascinating to see the close-ups of the musicians' performances, having seen them purely from an audience perspective. The Six Wives of Henry VIII is a modern classic piece (rather than the much-dissed prog rock) and Rick & Co really do their stuff. The old Yes fans and the young whippersnapper of 14 ALL enjoyed it! The backdrop of Hampton Court gave the music an added dimension that night. A fantastic DVD of a fantastic show with great performances.
