"Lay It Down" is at once, hard hitting and haunting. "Stack On My Belt" is another one that strikes some fear. Ross's smooth power vocals set the tone. One of the most interesting tracks is Wale's "Black Grammys" with a nod to old school pop soul. It's addictive. If "strong parental advisory" tracks could cross over, this one would. Irresistable hooks, great mood, slick production. Another highlight is "Poor Decisions" by Wale. With 16 tracks, this compilation is packed with strong material. Is it the best of the "Self Made" series so far? Can't answer that. They are all good in different ways. But this is a really great effort by executive producer Mastermind! Seems as though if you have an open mind and aren't a homer----Rick Ross has a midas touch. Everything he's involved with rocks hard. No exception here. Buy it. Play it loud. Enjoy.
I just hope MMG doesn't fall into the same trap as most of the great rap labels/crews of the late 90's and early 2000's and start signing everyone with or without talent and dilute the brand. As it stood with just Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley, and Omarion I believe they offered good music with each artist having their own niche. Now it seems like Ross is trying to capatilize on his limelight and push artist that aren't push worthy.
