Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By J. Wyper on 23 Sept. 2002
Although Richter plays the first movement of the G Major Sonata v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y it's totally involving. These readings (as with all Schubert performances by Richter) carry an authority unmatched by any other performer (to my mind, only Kovacevich comes close). For the C Major Sonata Richter plays all 4 movements (the 3rd and 4th weren't completed by Schubert) just stopping when the music runs out. These are masterly performances and the sound quality is first rate. I normally resent paying this much for a pair of CDs but in this case it was worth the money twice over.
