5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient Wisdom Holds for Modern Times. This One is for Us - The Modern Enlightened Women 23 Feb 2012
By Prosperity Doctor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Annette Tersigni's rendition of this best selling classic of 1926 by George S. Clason is amazing. The "Goddes of Gold" has a message and jewels of wisdom for us and Annette captured the 7 principles in her captivating parables. It was a delight to read, read things I already knew and experienced an awakening of things I had forgotten.

Ditto Susan Harrow, author of "Sell Yourself Without Selling Your Soul" - Buy this book, one for yourself to awaken your heart and inspire your soul, and give one to each of your daughters for an education on how to create wealth from a lean purse. Seize the Moment!

I first read "The Richest Man in Babylon" in 1975 when I started my job at Honeywell, Inc. I was a single mom and wanted to buy a house. I had no idea how I would be able to afford to purchase a home for my son with my income. I made an appointment with the banker just across the parking lot on the corner of Century and Airport Blvds in Los Angeles. I can't remember the banker's name, at that time it was Crocker Bank (now gone), but I am forever grateful for the banker's advice and recommendations. One bit of advice was to read this book. Needless to say, I transformed my thinking, attitude and behavior about money. I began investing in myself first, which was a major adjustment of delaying gratification. I diverted 10% of my income into a saving (with the help of my banker's constant encouragement and reminder not to touch it no matter what the situation. It was my now called my "Principle" and I had to protect it. I gave away 10% right off the top to different charities. I started a little business with MLM (now Network Marketing). The MLM investment was affordable and so was the risk. The possibility was there to leverage my little investment and it was up to me to seize the opportunity, which in essence was sweat equity! I was a "Holiday Girl", which meant I sold "Holiday Magic" band lotions and potions when I wasn't in class or at work. By the way, I did have classmates and work buddies as customers. Something amazing happened, in just two years I was able to purchase my own brand new home in a new development. It was awesome knowing I could afford a new home. I had so much fun looking at different neighborhoods, models and square footage. I finally selected the development in the community where I wanted to live, the location and the street. I put 10% down and started the process. It was so exciting. I re-designed the floor plan and picked appliances, window coverings and flooring. I redesigned the entry foyer and custom designed the fireplace, opened up the master bedroom wall and put in sliding doors to enter the back yard from my bedroom, where there was room for a pool. The following year I put in a pool! I was the only single woman owner in the new housing development - an obvious rare feat in 1977.

"The Richest Woman in Babylon and Manhattan" introduces the same Seven Principles as the classic, yet in the language for women:

1) Fatten Your Purse - Pay yourself first 10% off the top. Give and Invest.
2) Control Your Expenditures - Guard your desires. Stay within your budget.
3) Make Your Moolah Multiply - Put your money to work honey. Always get advice to avoid pitfalls of investments.
4) Guard Your Treasures From Loss - Protect your "Principle" from loss. Watch out for corrupt banks and greedy lenders.
5) Build Your Home Into A Profitable Investment - Own land. Leverage your our home and money. Grow herbs and a money tree.
6) Insure A Future Income - Love what you do. Do what you love. Become an expert at it.
7) Increase Your Ability To Learn and Earn - Awaken you heart and soul for the great adventure. Cultivate and educate yourself through mentors, coaches and by reading books to increase your financial savvy. Get a Mentor.Be coachable. Become a Mentor.

Ladies - Buy this book - see #5 - a new rendition of this classic written for women.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't my mother teach me this? 14 Jan 2012
By Jean Ferratier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My mother always had a lean purse. She didn't have the information to pass on to me and I followed her examples. The Richest Woman in Babylon is entertaining and confronts a serious topic. Even though I knew some of the information presented, I like the change of perspective it gave me. I learned that a lean purse can also be a state of mind and there are tangible ways to improve it. Following any step can lead to changes of set patterns that put into motion, can fatten your purse leading to a much more empowered mindset.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could have been better 20 April 2012
By Alisdes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Dont get me wrong, I appreciated the simple (not easy) advice the author presents. However for $15 I was expecting more. I found multiple grammatical and punctuation mistakes, as well as the typesetting misaligned on most pages. The text and cover look like the printing machine was running out of ink when it came off the press. Did this book go to a copy editor at all? It would have helped quite a bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars sensible and sensitive book 23 Jan 2012
By Patricia Raskin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
"Annette Tersigni has combined practically and spirituality in her book The Richest Woman in Babylon and Manhattan. She shows us how to utilize the tool of money to honor and take care of ourselves, build for the future, help others, and enjoy the "fruits" of our labor. Her book brings us the lessons of history to apply to life today. Annette has created a winner here using sensibility, sensuality, and sensitivity."
