A real bargain! 10 Nov 2009
Format:Audio CD
This is a 1987 remaster of the highly commended 1956 Karajan recording. It seems to have been remastered again in 2007 as an EMI release at more than twice the price. The performances are excellent and the recording is fine - I would never guess it was from 1956. At the price this is an absolute steal!

Needs a libretto 7 Sep 2011

This is the classic recording/performance so no hesititation in recommending it, but I always follow
the opera by reading the accompanying libretto. This version is very cheap but comes without the libretto and it's
proving very difficult to find something suitable on the web.
Otherwise, the one to buy.

I love this recording since long, the old vinyl is getting a bit scratchy, so this is a bargain for people like me... The best singers of this time, Karajan in his best years, vital and lively. Strauss at his best. Highly recommended, not least at this price! A real bargain.
