5.0 out of 5 stars Devine Comedy! A have must have! 1 Nov 2004
I'd never seen any Richard Pryor until earlier this year when they first released 'Live in Concert' on DVD.......but man I wish i'd known about this sooner! The reviews on the box are so right, it really is the best stand up comdey of all time and whenever i feel blue i watch the show and laugh out loud till i cry! It's so good that you can watch it over and over again. Now they've gone and made this special limited edition boxset with a bonus disc of Pryors hysterical movie, 'Stir Crazy', making it the 'funniest' gift you could possibly give or get for Xmas. Santa if your reading this please put down for two (just in case i wear the first one out!).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best just got even better 1 Nov 2004
I bought LIVE IN CONCERT when it came out in May and was astounded by it. The performance might be 25 years old but it remains edgy, provocative and hilarious. In fact, Pryor surpasses any other comedian currently alive. He remains, quite possibly, the greatest stand up of all time. When I first read about the Gold Edition, I thought, "Why on earth would I buy this?", and yet how could I resist when I learnt that it was packaged with STIR CRAZY, Pryor's funniest film. This is a must... the perfect Christmas gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST OF THE BEST 26 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Everyone's been raving about Live In Concert over the past few months and you can see why - it's without doubt the best stand-up show of all time, Pryor is not only funny, but also controversial as hell - hilarious, but don't be fooled, the material is shocking. But the great thing about this double pack is that you get the legendary Stir Crazy too, probably Pryor's funniest film. Gene Wilder was Pryor's regular on screen partner, and in this you get to see what their comedy chemistry was all about. Much better that they both be remembered for this classic than something like 'See No Evil, Hear No Evil'. Without a doubt this is essential viewing, watch this over your turkey sandwiches.

By Touring Mars VINE VOICE
Not for the faint-hearted possibly, Richard Pryor delivers a master-class in the art of stand-up comedy, blazing a trail that many have imitated, some have rivalled, but none have bettered. The main feature is a single concert, 1 hour and 20 minutes of it (approx.) from Long Beach, California from 1978. We are informed at the beginning that Patti LaBelle's support act was much appreciated but time doesn't permit it to be shown... oh well, let's just get straight into the comedy then, shall we? Pryor was never one to shy away from a controversial topic, and many people might find his act (and his language) pretty close to the bone. But Pryor always seems to counter-balance the edgier parts of his act with a self-depricating humility and geniuine sense of fun that leaves you smiling.
To the untrained eye, this concert looks like it's been lifted straight from the archives of some long-forgotten US TV network, and it probably has... but this is no way diminished the quality of the laughs provided herein. At times, the picture quality leaves quite a bit to be desired, as does the sound quality (there is a slight hum audible at times, presumably from the recording equipment), but again, unless you're really unforgiving, it doesn't spoil the joy of watching a master at the height of his trade... alone with nothing but a microphone, a glass of water, and a genius for making people laugh...
There are a couple of extras too, some early footage from a stand-up gig before Pryor hit the big time, and some footage from Pryor's ill-fated TV series. It's nicely packaged in a cardboard slip-case, you also get a handy litle booklet too, always good if you use those multiple DVD holders like I do.
Also, the double disc version (Gold cover) contains the movie 'Stir Crazy'...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny even in 2012 24 Dec 2012

You can see where Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Jamie Fox along with similar comedians got there foundation from. looking at Richard Pryor. Even though this performance was recorded many years ago it is still funny today.
