Review

"The continual refinement of human knowledge of the body and soul came to be one and the same thing for me, and the architecture of human living space its most necessary application and valuation." - Richard Neutra"

Product Description

This work is Taschen's 25th anniversary - special edition! Born and raised in Vienna, Richard Neutra (1872-1970) came to America early in his career, settling in California. His influence on post-war architecture is undisputed, the sunny climate and rich landscape being particularly suited to his cool, sleek modern style. Neutra had a keen appreciation for the relationship between people and nature; his trademark plate glass walls and ceilings which turn into deep overhangs have the effect of connecting the indoors with the outdoors. Neutra's ability to incorporate technology, aesthetics, science, and nature into his designs him recognition as one of Modernist architecture's greatest talents.

What more can I add in words after watching the good photowork and this work of art.
I recommend this book for everyone who want to be informed about a unique way of architecture.
Open spaces, wide windows and an amazing way to melt a house in a landscape.
It may not cover all the works but it certainly does a nice job to give the reader a good idea who the man and his mission was.

Taschen is known for producing high quality art books and this is no exception: Barbara Lamprecht's texts are insightful, and the quality of the photography is simply amazing. This book has many a great photo by Julius Shulman, and shows some of the greatest examples of modernist architecture in the USA. A must for any architecture lover and a great introduction to the oeuvre of the Neutra company.

Considering the cost of many architecture and design books, these Basic Architecture books from Taschen are a perfect introduction at a low price.
Beautiful pictures, clear text, and covering a variety of the architect's works.

I hope that Taschen will focus on some UK architects for future books; Rogers, Chipperfield or Foster ?
