My anticipations were mixed about this DVD. It would revolve around the established Richard and Judy with their previous Channel 4 quiz segment, but how would this work on an interactive DVD?
It doesn't. This DVD isn't a game, per se; it's the basis for a game. It is like Michael Aspel on Give us a Clue, giving out the clues instead of actually acting them. You divide into 2-4 individuals or groups (so singletons will find this very boring unless you watch with several friends), and either describe, mime, or do an impression of what you see on screen. That's right - sometimes Richard or Judy will ask you to do something other give the traditional description.
There is also another round called "Go Fetch", where Richard/Judy will give you 4 items for you to find as quickly as you can from around the house (e.g. sock, glove, grapes, watch).
So it's not a game itself - how effective is it as a clue giver? Potentially very effective. Whilst you can get clues from (say) a book, there is something nice about the way that it gives the clues, both in word and pictorial form.
However, there are several drawbacks. First of all, there's the constant music - always the same (unless Richard/Judy are speaking). Secondly, in the few games that I have had, there has been quite a lot of repetition - I'm sure that will become a source of comment, when you impersonate whatshisname yet again. Thirdly, there are some bugs in the DVD - in one of my games, the computer played three different comments from Richard/Judy in a row, then hung. Lastly, there are few recorded comments from Richard/Judy, so that you see Richard take a big breath and say "Time's up" too many times.
I would have given this DVD four stars, because it is a good basis for charades, and would be similar to the Interactive DVD had Give Us a Clue still been on the air. But I fear that its longevity may be short-lived because of the relatively few number of images, so I'll only give it 3 stars.
