I have to admit I am very impressed with Richard Bandler's latest books, both of which are totally different.

This book is clearly geared at people who already have experience with trance or are hypnotists, and is more detailed. If you're like me, you will find the book to be very free flowing, and an easier read than his earliest works. As you might expect, his trance work has become even more and more refined, there is a grace and fluidity about what he does.

This is apparent in the client session trance scripts included at the back. The embedded commands are italicised. If you don't already know much about Milton Model and Meta Model patterns, you will find resource files at the end, which will enable you to get up to speed very quickly.

My favorite line from the book is: 'So you only torture youself in your spare time?' spoken with typical irreverence.

I particularly like the stealing from a genius exercise. Its similar to something I already do.

Another one, you may find interesting is The Magic of False Memories.

One particular item I saw him do on a clip from Paul McKenna's tv show.
He was demonstrating -spinning feelings. That process is described in - Get the Life you want.

If you're unsure about which book to get, they are both excellent, and highly recommended.

I hope you find this review helpful.

I'd now recommend [ASIN:0757307779 Richard Bandler's Guide to Trance-Formation: How to Harness the Power of Hypnosis to Ignite Effortless and Lasting Change]]as a suggested 'must read' book for anyone who is genuinely interested in NLP and hypnosis. From the beginner to the most experienced. It's practical and it's deeply human. And this brings NLP up to date from the incredibly useful Milton and Meta models to the latest approaches.

I loved Bandler and Grinder's 'Trannce-Formations' but didn't really like this book by Bandler. 'Trance-Formations' was much more structured and detailed and provided the learner with the underlying algorithms for Ericksonian hypnotherapy. I found some of the same ideas in Bandler's 'Trance-formations' but not as well explained nor as well laid out as in Bandler and Grinder's 'Trance-Formations'. Bandler and Grinder seemed much more focused on using sensory cues and emphasizing the importance of feedback when describing various ways of utilizing trance, they also brilliantly taught readers how to use process instructions as a non content method of communicating with clients in trance.
Bandler is a genius but this book isn't a good example of this .I found many of his instructions regarding sub modality work to be incoherent. This is a sloppily written book and Bandler hasn't done himself any favors for publishing it in this state.

This has to be one of my 3 favourite books for NLP. As a Society of NLP Trainer, I've read all of Richard Bandler's books. This has to be my favourite... it's like you've got Dr Bandler there, talking through his techniques, in a conversational, approachable and incredibly user-friendly way.
Richard Bandler's Guide to Trance-Formation: How to Harness the Power of Hypnosis to Ignite Effortless and Lasting Change

As the title suggests, this book concentrates primarily on using hypnosis as a tool within NLP. If you want a very easy to use overview on NLP techniques, I recommend Dr Bandler's book "Get the Life You Want".
Get the Life You Want

My third favourite NLP book is "The Rainbow Machine", by Andrew T. Austin. Having met and worked alongside Andy, I believe he is one of the most talented change workers out there today... and this book provides an insight into his mind and methodology. Incredibly useful and laugh out loud funny... if you only buy one book, make it this one.

This book is Bandler at his best - elegant, streamlined, straight to the point, witty, insightful, provocative and jam packed with excellent information and practice suggestions. Alongside his 'Get the Life You Want' which again is full to the brim with great NLP based processes (predominantly submodality based) for pretty much most things, I get a real sense of Bandler beginning to put out works that really draw in and bring together a great many NLP threads into one place.

If nothing else, the transcripts (?trance-scripts?) at the end of the book alone are worth the money - for the ability to study Richard in action (similar in terms of the rich detail and use of language and process to 'Magic in Action'). And then there's so much more - the structured approach to building up skills in trance work, insights into how to utilise nested loops, information on threshold patterns, anchors, etc...

A very rich and wonder-filled resource... One to savour, enjoy and put into practice...
