I am a really keen fan of British Movies from the 40's,50's and 60's as they beat most movies from across the pond that deal with similar stories. As for Richard Attenborough he had such a range of characters that he seemed to pull out of the bag as can be seen from this Icon's Collection my favourites being Brighton Rock (not the remake which is ok),Dunkirk,Angry Silence,Privates Progress and my favourite The Ship That Died of Shame.My particular likes are war movies from this period, no gung ho style here just the opposite with your average working man in the street going to war (and probably not coming back) and witnessing the horrors of war first hand.Thank God it was them and not me but when you see these films it does make you wonder what todays generation would do.Acting is first class and picture quality is probably the best you can expect from Optimum/Studio Canal, the only other criticism i have is bearing in mind a lot of the people who will buy these DVD's are my generation and older is the lack of sub-titles which only adds a few pence to manufacturing costs and is a godsend to those who are deaf or hard of hearing like my daughter. So come on you people who transfer these disks keep the promises you made when you were trying to convert us away from video tapes add sub-titles as standard and join the 21st Century.Greatest Ever War Films Collection - Contemporary Classics (Steelbook) [DVD]

I like all the films in this Richard Attenborough set,
excellent quality considering their age .My only gripe
is : The Good: Box is sturdy ,and quite nice to look at
and DVDS come in slimline boxes which I personally dont
mind .The Bad : Why didn't Optimum use the origonal ,
artwork for the seperate DVDS ,instead of the DIRE! Black and white photos taken from the films ,for artwork ,I was dissapointed when I removed the films and saw the sleeves in each box were in my opinion like
poundshop covers which had no character and dull ,and as usuall no Subtitles! still a good buy for all of these 7 films ,and a good price from Amazon ,so just deducted 1 star for the sleeve designs ,but each film I would rate individually 5 stars ,if you want to save cash then buy this set ,but if you want the artwork design ,then get em seperate ,but that will cost more of your hard earned cash ,P.S (got over my dissapointment now and happy to keep this set ,although
I have bought 'Dunkirk' again seperate just for the Subtitles (Warner Edition you need for that ).

Ordered the boxset directly from Amazon - expecting a 5 disc boxset as shown, but secretly hoping for a 7 disc alike a previous customer had received, wasn't disappointed a 7 disc boxset arrived. Very happy customer!
