As I read this book I have come to realise trully what means to go trough life loving your autistic son and learn to cope everyday with the challenge, yet be bold enough to continue to dream. Kirk and Lorena Smith are a life leson for myself. I have been working with children with autism in România for the past 4 years and his book made me understand what life realy is like when you are a parent in this situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out Loud 20 Jun. 2013

I am a parent of two boys on the Autism Spectrum, and I love to laugh! This book had me laughing from the beginning. Kirk Smith is a very positive, inspiring and funny writer. For those of us who live with Autism everyday it is easy to get bogged down with all the hard stuff, this book gave me a feeling of hope and lightness. I highly recommend it for anyone! This is Jeffrey Lehman's wife, by the way, I loved this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A comedic family hero 19 April 2013
By ryry1 - Published on
If you've ever known someone with an Autistic child or sibling, you'll know that the challenges that those loved ones face are unimaginable. From mild diagnosis to more severe forms, it's the on-going dedication of family and friends that make life a bit easier for all parties involved and Rice Krispies and Ketchup definitely capture those achievements.

With a mix of comedy and courage, raising an Autistic child becomes a journal made book for an inspiring story like none I've ever read.

If you're wanting to learn more about Autism, or you simply love real life stories about people dealing with everyday challenges life throws at us all (some with more twists), then you'll likely enjoy this book as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even for Autism-less families... 22 July 2013
By Couch Surfing - Published on
Reading a good book is like having an entertaining one-sided conversation. This was a good book. Not only good, but profound. I do not have a child with autism but this is not exclusively for those who do. This book had two primary purposes for me: It helped me empathize with those who have a special needs child and it inspired and encouraged me in my own hassles and hardships. As a dad, I feel for Kirk, but the author doesn't want us to feel sorry for him. Instead, he helps us look at our own struggles as growth opportunities and look for the joy in all situations because it's there. Kirk's humor had me smiling throughout. Though Kirk can be self-deprecating , he gained something a lot of people miss. He used the hand he was dealt to see the bigger picture and has learned and re-learned how to live life even when it is not easy. Don't miss it. Pour yourself a bowl of Rice Krispies, ketchup or no, and get to know a good guy. Thanks for the inspiration, Kirk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating 22 Jun. 2013

Fascinating insight as to what it is like to live with an autistic child. I love how the author blends his personal life's experiences, the troubles and challenges he encounters while parenting an autistic son mixed with a unique twist of humor. The lessons he learned from this journey will be encouraging to one whether they have an autistic child or not. A heart-wrenching, heart-warming read.
