This book contains 45 different afghan patterns. Although they are not all to my taste, there are certainly enough that I like to make me very pleased that I bought the book. Ther are several patterns to suit beginners - many are different variations on the traditional granny square, also several patterns to suit the intermediate and experienced crocheter. As an experienced crocheter I sometimes enjoy making more complicated afghans and sometimes enjoy a break with a simple pattern. I especially liked making Noah's Ark - (falls into the "experienced" category)-which has a picture of Noah's Ark in the centre, side borders of separately crocheted animals (Elephants, sheep, giraffes, camels), top border of clouds with a rainbow and a bottom border containing Mr and Mrs Noah. It looked really good when finished, ideal for the nursery, although it did take quite a time to make!
Another useful afghan is "Baby's ABC Afghan". Not only is this an attractive blanket as it is, but it could also be fairly easily adapted to make a personalised blanket with baby's own name by using the letter charts supplied.
The afghan on the cover ("Kaleidoscope") is also fun to do and I was pleased to see that there are patterns for half-hexagons to go down the sides included as this prevents the unattractive "gappy" look border you get with a blanket made only of complete hexagons.
All in all an extremely good buy - mine is well-thumbed already!
