I wasn't sure Sophie could live up to the glory of her last album. But.....(to quote Sophie herself) HUZZAH turns out she can! In short, it be awesome. Buy it!

Magical,

Reminiscent of a cross between Imogene Heap, Owl City, and a soprano who exercises her alto range too (so not Haley Westenra). The songs' melodies are interesting and imagery evoked in the lyric is complex, avoiding relying on over-used cliches. Definitely worth the purchase price!

Pure, sultry, smoky voice from a pretty young woman. A++,

I discovered Sophie on youtube and was unable to get her music out of my mind. For a singer so young, she has incredible vocal tone and plays instruments ranging from guitar to xylophone. Her instrument of choice, however, is the ukulele. And on it, she absolutely kills. Chords, plus picking, coupled with her voice make for songs that are easy on the ears, plus light and fun on the heart. In the summer of 2011, Sophie hit one out of the park online. Her one tune a day for a month on youtube won many fans, me included. She recorded thirty tunes from her apartment, typically from her couch, and the songs were classics suggested by online viewers. Her amazing voice -- all at once, smooth and smoky and sultry and coquettish -- is magnetic. It sounds like shimmering water in a lily pond. It's unforgettable. My favorites are "Mad World", "Nobody Does It Better", and "Dream A Little Dream". Then along comes this, Sophie's second CD. It features her voice and uke, but the songs are highly produced, with backing tracks and layers of instruments. It may be a personal preference (and thus I didn't deduct any stars in my review), but these tracks don't showcase Sophie's voice and ukulele talent like her online videos. These tracks are uptempo pop music, and selling the ukulele and that impressive voice to the MP3 buying, Lady Gaga listening youth may be quite a challenge. However, in the tight community that is ukulele, with its stars (Jake Shimabukuro, Bette Midler, Aldrine Guerra, Greg Hawkes, Tamaine Gardner, Iz K., and on and on), Sophie's a comet heading straight for the top. She has the voice to be huge. Although I enjoy and recommend "Rhythm", I look forward to Sophie's next CD -- one that, prayfully, will be stripped down and pure. Like others before Sophie that share her angelic voice (Allison Krauss, Karen Carpenter), when the music is so simple as to be voice only, it's most effective. It could be Grammy winning. A definite talent with a sparkling future. I will be watching Sophie Madeleine, and suggest you do, too. thanks

Man, she's good. Really sweet clean lovely music that sticks in your head. I'm expecting to rehear this album sampled everywhere in the near future. Be sure to check out Sophie's homemade videos where she shows herself playing all the music and singing tracks. Obviously, extremely talented.
