The only reason I bought this cd was because I had heard Paul D Miller's(AKA DJ Spooky) remix work on his other album compilations, "Under the Influence", and "Modern Mantra". Spooky's style could best be described as reconstruction, he has a real ear for not only music, but sound too. On all of his albums, including the solo masterwork on "Songs of a Dead Dreamer" you can sense an element of synesthesia where the sounds take on a solid form. Spooky knows how to build the sonic landscape piece by piece using samples, layers, cuts and almost anything else.
On hearing Rhythm Science all of these elements come together. Vocal samples give clues and the outstanding artists on the Sub Rosa Catalog are coherently mixed, into the landscape.
Emphasis is placed on the future and digital sounds work their way through the mix. The overall mix is quite paranoid, abstract, and spooky too! Very few DJs can manage the remixing feats that Spooky does on this and his other records.
I recommend starting with the three albums mentioned above before taking the leap into this complex mix work. Amazon does pretty well to stock some of the rarer artists!
