With over 400 km (250 miles) of track to run on, several complete trains (locomotives, cabs, cars) to ride and a new set of activities (scenarios and objectives) to perform, Pro Train is the only add-on any train sim fan will need!
The first matter to take into account when playing this add-on for the first time is that it was one of the earliest add-ons produced and on the market for Microsoft Train Simulator. Therefore you have to compensate for some features in this add-on which are not upto the high standard of its sequel ‘Pro Train 2’. But in saying that, this is still well worth adding to your collection. Maybe the graphics, in places, are not as sharp and the textures not as smooth as in ‘Pro Train 2’, but there’s still more going for this add-on that against it. Seeing that ‘Pro Train 2’ is the best add-on, in my opinion, the fact that Pro Train 1 (Rhine Valley)’ is only slightly less quality, is not such a bad thing.
The route itself is very scenic and provides many spectacular views, such as a castle on an island in the middle of a lake. Another interesting aspect of this route is the fact that when heading towards Frankfurt you travel on one side of the river, but when heading the other way, back to Cologne, you travel on the other side! A nice touch, and realistic to the real route too.
There are the usual good selection of engines and rolling stock (goods and carriages) and there are 12 good activities included.
With an add-on coming out soon which provides more activities for this add-on, Rhine Valley is worth your attention.
