"Berlitz Pocket Guide: Reykjavik" covers all the main sights, area by area, in an easily navigable format. Tourist attractions described include the magnificent Hallgrimskirkja church, the enchanting Tjornin lake, the City Hall, and the city's impressive museums and art galleries. You can read about the stunning Blue Lagoon, the site of Iceland's first parliament, the dramatic waterfalls of Gullfoss, the geological centre of Geysir, and the wildlife of the Westman Islands. The book contains background historical information, advice on shopping and entertainment, as well as the low-down on eating out. There is an A-Z of practical information, listings of recommended hotels and restaurants, and useful expressions in Icelandic. There are also special features on topics ranging from whales to Halldor Laxness. Maps show Iceland, Reykjavik, the City Centre and excursions, and there are dozens of colour photographs throughout.

pocket essential 5 Dec 2009
If you have ever bought a Berlitz guide before, you will know that within the cover, you will find concise & simply written information about your chosen destination. This one is no different.

Dont be fooled by the pocket size of the guide, the information is complete.

Pocket size advantage is no more evident than when visiting Reykjavik in the winter. Hands will spend more time in gloves than out in the open.

Bought this little book for a city break to Iceland as it was about the only pocket-sized one available and was one of few little guide books actually dedicated to Reykjavik as opposed to the whole of Iceland.

Decent enough on the information front - details of where to go, what to see and do, where to eat etc, but limited indication of pricing and opening days/times for attractions. AA guides are particulary good for this sort fof thing, but as of yet, do not do a Reykjavik guide book.

Overall, if you are heading off for a weekend and want a quick peek at what to do - this would be the little book for you - I suspect Lonely Planet just covers far too much for what most people would be after.

Reykjavik is proving an increasingly popular place to visit and is appearing in more and more guide books. This one, at first glance looks diminutive and (as the name suggests) pocketable. That, though, is not at the expense of the content. It has plenty of information but, as a previous reviewer has commented, does not do detail on things like opening times. So, it's great at getting you fired up about visiting somewhere only to let you down when you discover it's closed on Mondays (or whatever). A realise that information like this is changing often, but a few indications on admission prices, opening times (with the caveat of a date when they were valid) would make the book so much more valuable. It's a shame as otherwise it's very well researched and, more importantly, accurate.
