Product Description

Product Description

REXX is the programming language designed for people, not machines. It swept IBM when it was first distributed on IBM's internal network by its creator. With heavy use by a lively networking community, it has evolved to meet the needs of its users. In 1987, IBM acknowledge its success and adopted it as one of the cross-system SAA (Systems Application Architecture) languages. Now, REXX has spread outside IBM, on both mainframes and micros. Today, more than six million people have REXX on their systems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning Rexx, 23 Jun 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Rexx Language: A Practical Approach to Programming (Paperback)
I bought this book as I am a new user of Rexx and I needed to learn it for work. I found this book to be very concise and to the point. You get exactly what you want, how to use Rexx. It is very easy to read as it is laid out by syntax sections. Each of the syntax keywords are explained fully with examples on how to use them. This is the best book on Rexx that I have seen. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn Rexx.

5.0 out of 5 stars REXX book written by the Creator (of Rexx anyway) himself, 22 Nov 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Rexx Language: A Practical Approach to Programming (Paperback)
Easy to understand, this book is an excellent tutorial for this simple but powerful language. And you can't argue with his credentials. Not overly clever or dense, very accessible, but (as far as I can tell so far) authoritative. This book was recommended by several manufacturers of MVS software as the definitive "beginner's" book, and "Modern Programming w/ Rexx" as a follow up.

4.0 out of 5 stars good book, lousy deal, 19 Sep 2001
By M. Sieweke - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Rexx Language: A Practical Approach to Programming (Paperback)
I enjoyed the book. It is very well written as a reference for the language. And it is interesting to read the motivation behind different features. I first used Rexx about 18 years ago, and I still think it's an excellent scripting language. I use the Korn shell every day, but I find it much easier to write scripts in Rexx. However, I don't think this is a good deal. [The cost] is WAY too much to spend for a xeroxed paperback copy. [Also,] it's NOT in a textbook binding...

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for a REXX beginner., 9 Jan 2000
By Michael Reddy "mvs guru" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Rexx Language: A Practical Approach to Programming (Paperback)
I used this book as my bible for the first 3-4 months I worked in REXX. It contains all of the introductory lessons and information you need to get some REXX under your belt. Perfect for a first-time REXX programmer.
