Biography

Arising from the ashes of the important mid-'90s Swedish death metal band At the Gates and featuring former members of Witchery and Face Down, the Haunted went through countless lineup changes during the late '90s before finally releasing The Haunted Made Me Do It in 2000, confirming the excitement surrounding the band. Back in 1996, guitarist Anders Bjorler and bassist Jonas Bjorler ... Read more in Amazon's The Haunted Store

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely stunning album 30 Nov 2004
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
It's been way too long since I heard an album as good as this. It's melodic yet awesomely heavy, and with the old vocalist returned to the band after a two album absence it couldn't sound better. Think Slayer meets At The Gates. The best metal album of 2004 without a shadow of a doubt.

4.0 out of 5 stars heavy is as heavy does 1 Mar 2006
By sean paul mccann VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
when you crave good old fashioned metal it is more than likely that you will get your fix with the haunted,on their debut they were class old school thrash metal and it was good, then in their next two albums they had a new singer and they became very extreme, now on album number 4,the original singer has returned and the sound is back and the crashing influx of thrash metal and classic metal is back and all is good again in the world of the haunted, opening track 'no compromise' is as much a statement of intent as a song title,it rocks and hurls and leaves you in a state of mental exhaustion, take this album as a sign of metal, its very much in your face

5.0 out of 5 stars THE HAUNTED ARE BACK AND STRONGER THAN EVER!!! 2 Nov 2004

Format:Audio CD
When the Haunted released their first album it changed thrash metal, in my opinion. It certainly changed it for me. Never before had there been such a sense of urgency, melody, hardcore screaming and shouting, and speed, been so perfectly executed. a raw, fighting and spitting murderous hybrid of At The Gates and Slayer. Fast, melodic and irresistable riffs, great songwriting and Peter Dolving's loud, shout-scream vocal style.
Of course, Dolving left the band for family reasons, the band also got a new drummer, and the next two albums were pretty far removed from the raw, inspired debut.
Now Dolving has rejoined, and given the band a fresh breath of life. The drums are insanely tight and flawlessly-played, the guitars and as catchy and fast as ever, and Dolving's voice is better than ever before. Plus, the band seem to have evolved soemwhat, throwing melodic-sung vocals, grooving and hardcore elements into the Haunted sound. With song titles like 'No Compromise' and 'Who Will Decide' you might think they've turned into a hardcore band, but they thrash as hard and fast as ever.
So buy it. There's no two ways about it- this album slays. I'm also impressed how they signed to a major label (Century Media) but haven't sold out one iota. This sounds like the band are really enjoying what they're playing! Catchy, heavy, everything that is good about The Haunted condensed into a grooving, storming modern thrash masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best yet 13 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
From the ashes of At The Gates, came the Haunted. Along with singer Peter Dolving (ex- Mary Beats Jane) they released their self titled debut album to varied reviews. Second album gave them international acclaim (The Haunted made me do it) with their modern take on trash metal, and with new singer Marco Aro promised great things. Then Came the trash-by-number One Kill wonder which impressed few. But now original singer Peter Dolving has returned and theyre more fierce than ever. Moving away from the swedish melodic death metal sound and rather fitting in nicely with the new american trash scene with the likes of Lamb Of God, this album is a killer and probably their best yet. Along with Lamb Of God's "Ashes Of The Wake" this is probably the trash album of the year. As where former singer Marco Aro gave the band a more hardcore shouty vocal style, Peter Dolving is a man with more potential. Willing to leave the shouting for a bit of clean vocal singing gives The Haunted more depth and opts for a more interesting listen. The Haunted "Made me do it" introduced the world to their excellent trash metal but rEVOLVEr will be the album taking them to the top of the game. Touring with the likes of Shadows Fall pretty much sets the comparisons in the scene. For fans of: Lamb Of God, Shadows Fall, God Forbid and the likes.
