3.0 out of 5 stars Buy Now... Revolt Later, 1 Mar 2003

It's been some four years since 'Buy Now... Saved Later' cemented OMS's place at the forefront of British nu/rap-metal. It's a position that's since been superseded by the likes of Lost Prophets, but after their gig in Oxford last summer won the band a new record deal, they're back with long-awaited new material.

Designed as an introduction to the band for both old and new fans, this EP probably offers more to the latter. Sure, long time fans will be glad their RATM-influenced political metal stance is as strong as ever, but the two new tracks show little sign of progress over the last four years, and even the art concept remains much the same. Those yet to discover OMS will probably be suitably impressed, however, both by the new material and live cuts of 'Rise & Shine' and '1845' from their last album. The biggest disappointment is probably that, despite making the EP chart ineligible, the band seem a bit stingy in only giving us 13 minutes.

3.0 out of 5 stars glasswerk review, 10 April 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Revolution Ep (Audio CD)
One Minute Silence burst into action with this explosive EP featuring four tracks, two brand new ones and two live recordings. Its rap metal, but thankfully manages to avoid slipping into that whining American twang that a lot of metal bands sadly do, and which you have to say is a complete relief. Title song 'Revolution' is laden with effects and storms along with delays and synths aplenty. The verse hooks are hard and twisted while the chorus is certainly more than enough to get the masses moshing.

'Into Our Own' isn't so obvious in its shoutability but kicks in like a steam train on acid causing muscle spasms in the neck. Once again there's plenty of effects used and the guitars predictably crash and sway in typical metal fashion. Good to hear though are the melodies and hooks in the breakdowns between the thundering choruses distinguishing it from much of the bland metal doing the rounds and definitely standing out from the others on this EP.

Last two tracks 'Rise and Shine' and '1845' are both live recordings that appeared on the album 'Buy Now . . . Saved Later', and are basically what you would expect from a live recording; rougher versions of the songs with a bit of improvisation here and there, and of course the screams from the crowd at the start and end of the songs. On the whole this is pretty impressive effort from a band that already have two albums under their belt, yet have put together a few songs with an element of originality in them.
