Book Description

13 May 2008
[UPDATED 2012 Edition]. Andrew Strom is founder of RevivalSchool.com and the international REVIVAL List. He was involved for 11 years in the same Prophetic movement as Todd Bentley and Rick Joyner - until he quit in anguish over the unbiblical and bizarre things going on in that movement. As an insider, Andrew questions a lot of the 'angels', the gold dust, and "revivals" like the one in Lakeland. Read the FACTS to find out why. What is real Revival? And how do we tell the true from the false? The answers are found in this provocative book. FROM THE REVIEWS: "I have been a pastor for 34 years and have been involved with the charismatic camp for 30 years... This is a book that should be read thoughtfully and prayerfully by all Christians, especially pastors and leaders." - Philip Morrill, pastor (Oregon, USA). "This book is must reading by all Christians BEFORE they get involved in any "revival" movement. It is well-written, well-researched and provides a historical context to better understand the workings of God through "revivals"." - Patricia Van Tine, Amazon Reviews. "This is a must read for Spirit-filled Christians. The passionate loving heart of God bounces off the pages. This is not written from a critical spirit, but a warning right from the heart of God." - Jo-Anne Leroux, Amazon Reviews. "Andrew's is a voice of reason in a storm of controversy." - Donald James Parker, Amazon Reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars True and false revival 26 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I read this in 2010 and it is excellent from Andrew Strom, where again he addresses deception and how we can be deceived. It consolidated and confirmed the study I had already done of this movement and Andrews book serves for our benefit. We should not only read this book but that we should also research the opinions and findings of others who have reseached the Todd Bentley movement. This book gives us clues to watch out for future stuff and it is a good addition to our library. Sadly a number of credible Christian leaders who got mixed up with TB where influenced and shows that even the best are open to the seduction of the enemy (Matt 24:24). From experience and teaching in the ministry of healing, deliverance and discipleship there is cautioun because when placing ourselves under someone such as TB there is the potential of giving place to the enemy with demonic transference(1Tim 5:22) and attachments and where ungodly soul ties can be made. Let us be watchful in these days. Let us question each other and be good Bereans (Acts 17:11). Revival begins with us and it is an inner work of sanctification. This reminds of a quote from George Verwer international coordinator of operation mobilization "There are many cheap substitutes and secondary roads for genuine holiness. We can tramp down one false route after another clutching the counterfeit of New Testament discipleship instead of possessing the real thing. That thing is Christ like individual's not religious robots, not doctrinal champions, not evangelistic whirlwinds but men and woman who are like Jesus. It is a work that will take all our lives and there are no shortcuts to this kind of spiritual growth."

I was interested to see what Andrew Strom had to say but I was disappointed. He has a very narrow view of prophecy (= repentance) and although states that revivals can be messy, has made up his own mind about what has happened over the past 14 years. He didn't mention gold dust apart from the title. He needs to look at the fruit of revivals - I am aware of a lot of fruit coming from the Toronto blessing - and not make it more a personality issue. He also made a lot of use of personal emails which cannot really be used as "evidence". From what I've seen of the Florida Outpouring, many people recommitted their lives to God and many were healed. God is a God of the supernatural, there will always be abuses and people will make mistakes but that doesn't stop God working.

Andrew Strom burst forth in his book 'True and False Revival' as a twenty first century fiery prophet exposing the latest Charismatic heresys. I acknowledge Mr Strom's sincerity in that he wishes to reverse and expose current Charismatic trends but I find this work to be a little weak and presumptive ? The discerning body of Christ has known since it's early conceptions in the 1990's that these so called revivals were false and very easily recognised as such and avoided and exposed by the saints. This might be a good book to give to someone who is involved in these false movements as it is written by someone who was in it up to their neck but little more.. I have trouble with Strom's work as it contends to know, with much authority, what real revival is. Smith Wigglesworth is quoted in this work as a authoritative source for genuine ministry. It has been well documented that Wigglesworth was a very deluded personality and there is not a scrap of empirical evidence or reliably corroborating evidence to prove any one was ever healed under his ministry. We only have Wigglesworth's word that these things happened ! The supposed healings are so fantastic they beggar belief. It can be plainly seen that Bentley and his conspirators copy the methods described in Wigglesworth material, hyping them up to greater degree; slapping, kicking choking and punching their victim's until the demon's flee from them. Strom continues to refer to [in his book] what 'revival [is]and is not' as though he was a great authority on so called revival. In reality Strom has only experienced the false and read in books about what was the supposed correct variety of revival? We really can not keep going back to old books and stories to prove what is revival ? Read more ›

As an ex-New Ager/Occultist, who has been a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ now for the past 30+ years, and studied and written about the history of revivals and awakenings, I highly recommend Andrew's new title "True and False Revival."

It is filled with Christian common sense and much needed advice, drawn, not only from his own research into genuine revival, but also from his own experiences in a neo-Christian cult.

The content of the book is a well balanced, showing the clear difference between "True and False" revival, and written by a man who is genuinely concerned for the glory of God as well as for those who might be deceived through the unbiblical "healing revivals" that are promoted by neo-Christian cults today.

My prayer is that God will use this book to deliver many from the deceptions currently sweeping our nations. Thank you Brother Strom for your timely and helpful book.
