A very well put together collection. Lindner manages to pull together a variety of interesting and rich ideas about the new represenation of James Bond in Daniel Craig's first outing as 007. The essays are incredibly thorough and insightful and build coherently upon one another creating a cohesive core structure of arguments and ideas. I enjoyed the book and it has proved invaluable for research purposes.

BOND ON CAMPUS 20 Sep 2010
By Michael C. Smith - Published on Amazon.com

It is truly fascinating how the film "Casino Royale" has affected not only the public in general but as evidenced in this book by Christoph Linder the film as touched a cord within the academic world.
This book of essays on the effects of the movie covers all conceivable aspects on our culture, from moral structure and expectations, to post 9/11 politics and even our fashions and perceptions of masculinity, machismo and masochism. The essays range from the very dry and dense to some that are very entertaining and not only touch on the film but in some cases are broadened to include a look at the original book upon which it is based. Loads of small black and white pictures are sprinkled throughout the book as well which illustrate points in the essays. This collection of scholarly essays is really an enjoyable read that only reinforces the importance of film as art in our lives today. For the real Bond / Fleming / Craig fan this is a must have. Yet for those who come to this book with a casual interest the book could be an eye opening read that will lead one to further investigate the Bond phenomenon.
Interesting... 18 Feb 2012

First, James Bond HAS been reinvented in the 2006 Casino Royale, so this book matters to those who love James Bond. He has, at least, been reinvented in the movies. The essays deal with James Bond and technology. James Bond and women. James Bond and his body, and so on. You will find many of the essays deep, some are funny, but you will all of them interesting - even if you do not agree with them.
There does seem to be a feminist spin on some of them but do not let that scare you off. The fact that the Cold War is over and James Bond is now an old fashion spy in a new World Order was an interesting point that popped up a few times in the essays.
Of course, to understand the book, you need to have seen and read much of the James Bond material out there. Enjoy!
