I have always been a bit of a book fiend! I have read 3 Oxford handbooks cover to cover and all MRCP examination and theory books and i have read at least 2 other emergency medicine guides.

For emergency medicine examinations this is the GOLD STANDARD!

It covers the whole curriculum, easy to read and some of the chapters are soooo well written. The chapter on medico legal issues is the most concise and memorable I have come across.

The chapter on toxicology is more generic than the Oxford handbook and I would use both for revising this topic and the infectious disease chapters as they complement each other. There is no cover on major incidents and you will need to outsource this topic for MCEM and FCEM.

Forget about typos they are inconsequential when the standard of the text is so high.

Don't hesitate buy it now!

Yes I am a total fan!

Simply a key revision aid to sitting the MCEM B - and useful for C in recapping bits and pieces. Had I read this book for part A I would have found that exam easier too!

Of note when comparing my copy to a friends version - there are a couple of type and grammar errors in mine which do not appear in his later version. Asking around I have heard that the first few copies published had the errors that appear in my book which OUP have since corrected in subsequent versions. Apparently if you are one of the lucky (or unlucky) people who have a version with editing errors in then getting in contact with Oxford University Press group is easy and they will sort you out.

Aside from the above though this is an excellent book and well worth buying. I have not put mine up for resale as I intend to use it for future.

The blurb is right - this book does everything it says on the cover - filling a gaping hole in the resources for MCEM. Covers the entire syllabus, is easy to read, and has a good number of questions to test your knowledge. I read it twice, passed first time :-)
