3.0 out of 5 stars I would get it anyway 7 Jun 2011
By s khan
This is a nice book in the sense this is how my own revision book should have looked like. It has all the knowledge you should know as a succinct list and it is true to the basic sciences as listed by the college. There are also some good diagrams in it. However, I could not find a section on statistics and there were some rather glaring mistakes (I presume publication errors). Some of the mistakes include getting the concentrations of cations and anions in intracellular and extracellular compartments the wrong way round, and also stating hypokalaemia as a feature of Addison's disease. I was not sure how to feed this back to the authors, but you have to be careful that you are not assimilating the wrong information. I would use it to dip in and help remind yourself of subjects that you once knew but have forgotten (i.e. as the revision book it was intended to be). I would take it as a plus point if you can spot the errors too, as this obviously means you do have some knowledge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for revision 20 Nov 2013

I find this book really useful but I'm afraid I can't use it on its own. There's not a lot of diagrams for the anatomy part and I quite often have to refer to other books or google

1.0 out of 5 stars APPALLING book 27 Oct 2013

This book, while the only of its kind available, is dreadful! It is laden with mistakes. If you are using this as your only study aid beware! I had to give it one star as zero wasn't an option.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent guide for revision 19 Sep 2011
By diego
After time strugling to find a guide for my revision this book comes to light. It is based in the curriculum and it gives you the exact depth of knowledge needed to face the exam confident that you know, at least, enough on each subject.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad execution. 27 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Good in theory, follows the syllabus, but loads of mistakes, really a much so that I now don't trust it to revise from and have to cross check everything twice. Often copied word for word from Wikipedia - which I don't think is great practice. No statistics included. Great format but needs a lot more work.

There is a paucity of resources available for the MCEM despite there being a big syllabus that needs to be covered. This book is designed to fill that gap with one convenient book instead of 15. It's good good diagrams and closely adheres to the syllabus.

BUT (and this is a big but) as pointed out before there are lots of little errors. Sometimes it is mixing up medial and lateral. Some of it is getting things totally the wrong way round. Every now and then I think "that really doesn't sound right", google it and lo and behold it is wrong. But then it makes me worry that I am only picking up the errors when I knew the information anyway (which sort of negates the point of a book) and that in the areas I know nothing about I'm probably missing much more.

I'm using it for the anatomy revision (since I'm fairly doomed in that section anyway and it tightly adheres the the syllabus) but I don't trust it for things like physiology so am using other sources.

It's a real shame because if these errors were rectified it would be the perfect exam companion.
