More About the Author

A few people have clicked on the random assortment of books you see here and asked me; what kind of author are you? To be honest, I'm not sure. I'm just glad I write books that earn money and seem to be appreciated. Writing for a living can put both of those things in jeopardy. Some of the work here is a labour of love; you don't write about Carlisle United to get rich. Some of the work chased me, particularly the text books, but it's good solid work and I appreciated the offers when they came. Elsewhere the work I've done is generally the result of meetings, contacts and other chance collisions that worked out well. When I'm not writing books I'm writing pretty much everything else; scripts, journalism, comedy and the like. There's more information at my website: www.neilnixon.com. When I've won an award, been nominated for one, or drawn decent critical praise, it's generally for work that deals with the day to day realities of life and gets inside characters to the point we really understand them. Trite as it sounds, that stuff matters to me, and I'll keep on doing it. I'll also get round to writing another grimly comic novel under the pen-name of Stanley Manly. I spend part of most weeks teaching undergraduates to write for a living. Thanks for reading the bio, I can be contacted through the website. A list of books I worked on also appears on Amazon, here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neil-Nixon-II-My-contributions-but-not-my-books/lm/RPPTCLTZ23HOQ/ref=cm_srch_res_rpli_alt_1

3.0 out of 5 stars A good revision GUIDE for Media Studies 2 Sep 2000
This book should only be used as a guide to revison as it doesn't include ALL the key-concepts of the media industry. The book is quite good for revision, assisting with coursework and giving several key examiners tips. The practice questions in this book are pointless - they are outdated and highly irrelevant to the modern demands of the education boards. This book simply touches on the main points of the media syllabus. Nevertheless this book is useful to have for reference and as a resource in GCSE Media Studies.
