Mr Cash can hardly complain about the Chambers Dictionary of Etymology using "American spellings" when he himself cannot spell, correctly, the words 'impeccably' or 'competatively.' I have always advised my students to avoid adjectives so far as possible, but if they do they must spell them accurately. Look up the word 'solecism', Master Cash.
