I strongly recommend this audio CD by Healthtext audio explained by Julian Whitaker MD to anybody who wants to protect or improve his / her general health not just cardiovascular health.

I listened to this audio CD twice so far and learned a lot about how the cardiovascular system works in the human body and what we must do to protect its health to prevent hypertension, heart attacks etc. If you already have hypertension Julian Whitaker MD clearly explains what to do to reverse hypertension through adopting a correct lifestyle without any drugs. These include eating right, exercising, abstaining from smoking, drinking alcohol extensively, using addictive drugs, taking vitamin supplements, getting good sleep, managing stress, breathing deeply, and drinking a lot of water. Everybody may already know these headings but Dr. Whitaker goes into details by describing how various kinds of foods affect our bodies and the cardiovascular system in particular, what to eat and what not to eat. What kind of exercise to do, which vitamin supplements to take, how to get a good night's sleep, how to manage stress etc. He says that these measures will reverse hypertension in 80 per cent of the cases if applied correctly with patience over time with no need for drugs even if you have been taking hypertension medication for years. He warns that going off medication should be done by gradually reducing dosages under your doctor's control, not by yourself. The remaining 20 per cent of people with hypertension may not fully benefit from the lifestyle changes described here and may need to continue taking medication to control hypertension.

I bought this audio CD because my father has hypertension and I want to know what measures to take to prevent hypertension to develop in me before it happens. I follow Dr. Whitaker's advice about eating right, exercising, breathing deep and drinking lots of water. I have yet to be able to sleep better and learn to manage my stress.

This audio CD appeals to not only people who want to prevent or reverse hypertension but also to anybody who wants to learn about how the human cardiovascular system functions. It is a good source for high school students who need to learn about the heart, arteries and veins as part of their biology courses.

The clarity and understandibility of the explanations is very high. It comprises upto date knowledge about the topic from a very knowledgeable doctor. The sound quality of the CD is also very good. So if you are looking for a reliable information source about cardiovascular health, this is it.

Gives great information on diet control of hypertension,

can help halt the inevitable dosage increase that will happen if you just rely on the medication alone,

just got to give the diet plenty of time to overcome years or decades of bad diet habits... a big difference can be made by cutting down and avoiding processed and tinned foods and alcohol.

This book has a great deal of good advice on diet and lifestyle. However, beware of the high vitamin supplements it recommends. I followed the advice and after almost a year suffered from higher blood pressure and symptoms of vitamin overdose which made me quite poorly. So make sure you discuss any advice the book gives with your doctor first.
