4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant album some mellow songs, 7 Jun 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: In a Reverie (Audio CD)
I first discoverd lacuna coil after randomly searching on the internet for bands that were recommended as similar to evanesence. first i got their album comalies which i liked, before getting this. in a reverie is probably one of lacuna coils better albums in my opinion mainly due to the fact that i loove "to myself i turned" which is one their best songs. As with most of their albums some of the songs are quite boring but on this album there are alot of songs that make up for that (for example to myself i turned, circle and honeymoon suite) which really get in your head. overall i think this album is definatly worth getting if you are a lacuna coil fan and i'd definatly advise this over unleashed memorys. other bands i recommened (if you like the gothy stuff or heavy metal) are disturbed, after forever, snake river conspiracy, kidneythieves and my all time favorite nightwish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneering!, 5 Jan 2005
This review is from: In a Reverie (Audio CD)
What do you get if you take post-Icon Paradise Lost, shove a a beautiful and talented singer at the helm and pre-empt the nu-goth revival? Well, apart from "Mandylion"-era The Gathering, fans of whom will probably also find something to like here, you get the first Lacuna Coil full-length CD! And it's a doozy- the mix on this album is far more guitar/drum heavy and the whole thing is a lot more satisfying as a result. "Cold" and "My Wings" (still a live set highlight) do owe a lot to Paradise Lost's "Draconian Times" but "Honeymoon Suite" and "Falling Again" evidence more goth-friendly subtlety. I think, even with strong later material like When a Dead Man Walks, Senzafine and Tightrope, the band have yet to better this record.
...Evanescence who?

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS NOW!!! (But buy Comalies first!), 28 April 2004
This review is from: In a Reverie (Audio CD)
Why do so many people compare Lacuna Coil with Evanescence???? It was theCoil that did all of this first, and - trust me - they did it MUCH better.Evanescence doesn't even come close. In short: If you like Evanescence, you will LOVE Lacuna Coil. That is what a friend said to me, and theycould not have been more right! 'In A Reverie' is the second LC album Ipurchased (their most recent 'Comalies' being the CD that not onlyintroduced me to this band, but what has made me love them so much andpursuaded me to check out their earlier works) and when listening to thisfor the first time - with VERY high expectations, after falling in lovewith 'Comalies' - I was NOT disappointed. This is beautiful music; led byCristina Scabbia's voice, complimented with the harsher tones of AndreaFerro, this will blow you away. She has the most beautiful, ethereal anddynamically varied voice I have ever heard, and that Amy Lee - whose voiceis nevertheless powerful - could only dream of having. 'In A Reverie'gives only an insight into the amazing talent of this woman (and the bandas a whole) and as a first time listener you would probably have to hearthe songs on 'Comalies' aswell to see this to the full extent. This is thesort of music that captures you right from the very first listen, andcontinues to grow and grow on you with time until it takes you to afar-away place you just cant get enough of. Although there are only ninetracks, each is over four mins long, giving a total of 45 mins of puremusical heaven for your money! Heres a brief summary of my thoughts oneach track:
'Circle': A brilliant start to a brilliant album! Characteristiaclly, itsquite heavey, and the chorus is fantastic.
'Stately Lover': begins gently, with Christina showing wonderful variationin her voice. Nice chorus, however, the verses are the highlight of thistrack.
'Honeymoon Suite': Im still not sure about this track. its not bad, but Icould easily single it out as the worst on the album. Andrea' harsh malevocals don't flow into Cristina's the way they do in the other songs, itjust doesn't work for me. Definately the single track this CD could havedone without!
'My Wings': This is definately one of this album's highlights. Thedrumming and guiter riffs on this track are powerful and driving, buildingup to a beautiful chorus in which Andrea's vocals work fantasticallyalongside Cristina's.
'To Myself I Turned': This is one of two much softer, slower songs onhere, in which Cristina sings alone and with a breathtakingly etherealtone.
'Cold': Possibly the darkest song on the album, Andrea's deeper tonesharmonising wonderfully with Cristina throughout. This is a song thatparticularly grew on me after a few listens - amazing!
'Reverie': At over six minutes, this is the longest track. Another inwhich Cristina again shows awesome variationa and dynamics in her voice, soaring effortlessly into the high notes like silk. Unusually, its Andreawho sings the chorus, but this works surprisingly well. Not a standouttrack for me, but another that has grown enormously on me the more I hearit!
'Veins Of Glass': This is my 2nd-favourite on the album. Another thatproves Andrea can carry off a melody aswell as angry grunts! -its himsinging the main tune, while Cristina takes over for the chorus. Amazingstuff -I love it!
'Falling Again': This is the stand out track, and one of my favouriteLacuna Coil songs ever. Its another ballad, with Cristina singing alone. The emotion and sadness in her voice really shows through on this track, and the sheer beauty of it moves me to tears (and that is not easily done!;)). If I ever get the opportunity to hear this sung live, I will grab itwith both hands!! (Ive heard they are awesome live, and quite believablyso)
BUY THIS ALBUM, you will not regret it! But I still recommend getting'Comalies' first. 'In A Reverie' is spectacular, but I still favour'Comalies' any day! Discover Lacuna Coil and
that Evanescence CD won'tgo near your player for months. Guarenteed.
